BOSTON, MA – Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has acquired forward Brian Rolston and defenseman Mike Mottau from the New York Islanders in exchange for forward Yannick Riendeau and defenseman Marc Cantin.

Chiarelli also announced that the Bruins have acquired defenseman Greg Zanon from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for defenseman Steven Kampfer.

To make roster space for the newly acquired players, the Bruins assigned Andrew Bodnarchuk, Carter Camper, and Max Sauve to Providence.

The 39-year-old Rolston is a veteran of 1235 NHL games and has registered 339 goals and 407 assists for 746 points in his 19-year NHL career. The Flint, MI native has also appeared in 70 postseason contests where he compiled 19-12=31 totals and was a member of the 1995 Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils. With the Islanders this season, Rolston has skated in 49 games and recorded four goals and five assists for nine points.

Rolston has notched 20 or more goals seven times in his NHL career, most recently in 2009-10 as a member of the New Jersey Devils when he potted 20 in 80 games. This is Rolston’s second stint in Boston, as he appeared in 338 games for the Black & Gold from 1999-2004 where he registered 236 points on 101 goals and 135 assists. His best season statistically came during the 2005-06 season with the Minnesota Wild when he set career highs in goals, assists and points with 34-45=79 totals.

Rolston was originally drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the first round (11th overall) of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft.

A native of Quincy, MA, Mike Mottau has skated in 29 games for the Islanders this season and registered 0-2=2 totals. For his career, the 33-year-old has played in 307 NHL games with the Rangers, Flames, Devils and Islanders and has seven goals and 51 assists for 58 points. Mottau is a veteran of 17 NHL postseason contests and totaled two goals and two assists in those playoff games.

The 6’0, 193-pound Mottau attended Boston College for four years from 1996-2000 and played in 163 career games for the Eagles. He was originally drafted by the New York Rangers in the seventh round (182nd overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.

Now in his sixth full NHL season, Greg Zanon has skated in 432 NHL games with the Nashville Predators and Minnesota Wild and registered 11 goals and 43 assists for 54 points. The 6’0, 205-pound native of Barnaby, BC has also appeared in 11 postseason contests where he compiled four assists. This season, he had 2-4=6 totals in 39 games for Minnesota.

Last year, Zanon ranked second overall in the NHL in blocked shots with 212 in 82 games. His best season statistically came in 2009-10 after he notched 2-13=15 totals in 81 games. He was originally drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the fifth round (156th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
