Neely Sk8 Challenge Begins
BOSTON, MA – Team President Cam Neely, along with players Brad Marchand and Tyler Seguin, visited the Frog Pond at Boston Common Friday to kick off the third-annual “Neely Sk8 Challenge” skate-a-thon.

The event was hosted by the Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care, and raised $120,000 last year.

“So many families have dealt with cancer unfortunately, and [the foundation] understands the need for support,” Neely said. “To be able to do it at an event like this where the kids are getting exercise, they’re having fun – they’re raising money, nothing beats it.

“What excites me is introducing all these young kids to the idea of giving back, so that’s an exciting part about doing an event like this.”

Fans that registered to skate at the Frog Pond paid an eight-dollar donation and received an opportunity to take pictures and get autographs from Neely, Marchand and Seguin.

“What Cam does for the community and how much he gives back is really a great thing, and anytime we can help out in any kind of way, we want to be a part of it,” Marchand said. “It’s for a great cause and anytime you can come out to events like this and be part of the community it’s always fun.”

Seguin reflected on being a fan and getting a chance to meet players, and he was happy to give the young Bruins supporters that same chance.

“In the end it’s all about the smiles on their faces,” Seguin said. “Any time there’s an opportunity to do this, it’s something I really enjoy doing.”

With the help of Liberty Mutual and the Boston Bruins Foundation, the Neely Sk8 Challenge will take place at five other locations.

Neely was excited to see the young fans skating on the ice and he is looking forward to seeing that enjoyment continue at future locations.

But more importantly, the team president said he is happy to raise money for a cause that can help so many people.

“To be involved in the community, it’s important from the Bruins standpoint,” Neely said. “It’s something the Bruins players have done for years and years and years and I want to continue that.”
