Savard to Donate TD Garden Suite to Children\'s Hospital Boston
BOSTON, MA – On Thursday, January 12, Bruins forward Marc Savard's program will begin at the TD Garden for pediatric patients at Children’s Hospital Boston with a focus on children suffering from the effects of head trauma from both a medical and psychological standpoint. Savard purchased a luxury suite for every Bruins home game for the remainder of the 2011-12 season through the completion of the 2013-14 Bruins season. The suite will be complete with healthy food and goodie bags for each guest, as well as a visit from the Bruins mascot, Blades and the Bruins Ice Girls.

The Children’s Hospital Boston Brain Injury Center specializes in the management and treatment of all types of traumatic brain injury. The Children’s Hospital Boston Brain Injury Center is helping to define the best practices in the way brain injuries are cared for, from early response through inpatient care and long-term follow-up. Team members are actively involved in injury prevention programs within the community, the training of medical staff on injury care and treatment, and research with the long-term goal of reducing the incidence of injuries and improving outcomes for those who have been injured.

The Children’s Hospital Boston Brain Injury Center provides comprehensive acute and follow-up care with the goal of managing symptoms in patients diagnosed with concussion/mTBI, as well as more severe traumatic brain injury. Drawing public attention to this important children’s health issue is a primary prevention goal of this program which will be appreciably advanced by Marc Savard’s important donation.  

The 34-year-old Savard is following the lead of teammate Patrice Bergeron, who has hosted the “Patrice’s Pals” program for the past six years. Through “Patrice’s Pals,” pediatric patients being treated at hospitals throughout Massachusetts and members of local children’s organizations are invited to the TD Garden for a Bruins home game as Bergeron’s VIP guests.

In 807 NHL games, Savard has registered 207 goals and 499 assists for 706 points. He signed with the Bruins as a free agent on July 1, 2006 and went on to play 304 games with the Black & Gold and averaged a point a game, with 305 points on 74 goals and 231 assists.  

Savard’s hockey career was altered during a March 7 game against Pittsburgh in 2009 when he suffered a severe concussion. He would come back that year and play in seven playoff games, but would not be on the Bruins roster to start the 2010-11 season after battling post-concussion symptoms and depression during the summer. Savard did return to the Bruins lineup for the first time in the 2010-11 season on December 9, 2010 and skated in 25 games, however another concussion on January 22, 2011 shut him down for the year and he has not played for the Bruins since.
