36 Hours with 37
BostonBruins -- Let's face it. There's always cameras trained on the Boston Bruins.

And given the success of HBO's 24/7 series, which has documented the run up to the NHL's last two outdoor games in the United States, demand for more behind the scenes footage -- especially of the defending Stanley Cup champions -- is at an all time high.

Enter NHL 36 and NHL Original Productions - a cooperative effort between the NHL and Ross Greenburg, the team that produced two critically-acclaimed programs on HBO: "Broad Street Bullies" and the Emmy Award-winning "24/7 Penguins/Capitals: Road to the NHL Winter Classic".

Their latest effort, "NHL 36: Patrice Bergeron", will air Wednesday night*, Jan. 4, at 6:30 p.m. on NBC Sports Network (formerly VERSUS).

With narration provided by actor and Emmy Award winner Peter Coyote, the show documents 36 hours in the life of Bergeron during the Western Conference portion of the B's current road swing and specifically highlights Boston's 2-1 overtime win in Phoenix.

"I think it turned out pretty well," said Bergeron of the process. "But it was different.

"At first, I had to get used to it. I guess the second day was easier for me, I was a little bit more used to it.

"I hope it turns out to be a good show," he said.

Whatever success the show has will be owed to Bergeron, an alternate captain for the Bruins, who was very patient with up to four cameras following his every move for over a day and a half. But Patrice said he didn't change his daily routine, even as the production videotaped every aspect of the trip, from home to plane to bus to rink to hotel - and then some.

"Yeah I think it’s pretty much what I do," said Bergeron. "I think it’s going to be very close to my everyday preparation on the road.

"At home it’s a little different, but on the road that’s what it is."

NHL Original Productions was pleased to have the opportunity to follow Bergeron and give a viewers a peek into the center's life off the ice.

"Patrice has won a Stanley Cup, plus a gold medal at the Olympics, at the World Championship and at the World Junior Championship," said Ross Greenburg, executive producer, NHL 36, to "He is one of the League's most under-rated superstars."

As such, Boston Bruins Head Coach Claude Julien said he was also pleased that the network chose Bergeron to represent the B's.

"He is a good pick," said Julien. "We said that all along – we see him everyday.

"We figure he’s probably one of the most underrated players in the league, and he does it on both ends of the ice.

"Also his attitude, he’d be arguably one of the hardest working players day in and day out, whether practice or games, he shows up with a purpose and you don’t find too many players like that – that are able to do that on a consistent basis and he’s been doing that ever since I’ve been there."

But Bergeron, who's appeared on all of hockey's biggest stages, has never had so many eyes on him specifically.

"I’m very happy I did it, but at the same time it was weird and it was a first for me," said the oft soft spoken Bergeron. "It’s probably not my style, but...I guess you get used to it."

*NHL 36: Patrice Bergeron will re-air on the NBC Sports Network on Friday, Jan. 6 at 9 a.m. and Sunday, Jan. 8 at 1 a.m. It also will air in the United States and Canada on NHL Network™ on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 12:30 p.m. ET and Sunday, Jan. 8 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
