BOSTON, MA - On Monday, December 12, alternate captain Patrice Bergeron and the Bruins roster took a trip to Target in Woburn (101 Commerce Way, Woburn, MA 01801) for the team’s annual Holiday Toy Shopping event presented by AT&T. The players bought toys to be given as gifts to children who are unable to celebrate the holidays at home.
Each player was provided a shopping wish list from the hospitals receiving the donation. Children's Hospital Boston, MassGeneral Hospital for Children, Shriners Hospital for Children, Boston Medical Center, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Franciscan Hospital for Children and Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center will be the recipients of the Boston Bruins’ generosity. The toys will then be packed and transported to each of the hospitals courtesy of Gentle Giant Moving Company. In addition, Volvo will provide transportation for the players driving to each hospital for the toy delivery.
Members of the 2011-12 Boston Bruins roster are donating money from their own pockets, and the Boston Bruins organization will match every dollar the team raises. Last year $20,000 worth of toys were purchased and donated by the players and the organization.
Bruins Hall of Famer Ray Bourque started the player holiday toy shopping and delivery tradition when he was captain, and defenseman Hal Gill and forward P.J. Axelsson continued Bourque’s efforts. For the third consecutive year, Bergeron has taken responsibility for the program and will coordinate the delivery of the toys on Tuesday, December 20.
The 2011-2012 Boston Bruins season is presented by the Massachusetts State Lottery.
