Bruins Week Ahead
THE BOSTON BRUINS WEEK AHEAD
NOVEMBER 18 – NOVEMBER 25

THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS:
LUCKY 7: Winners of seven in a row, the Bruins embark on a three-game, pre-Thanksgiving road trip with visits to Long Island (Saturday, November 19), Montreal (Monday, November 21) and Buffalo (Wednesday, November 23). The seven consecutive wins is the longest such streak since the B’s won seven straight last season from February 17 – March 3, 2011.

As of Friday, the Bruins rank ninth in the Eastern Conference with 20 points, however they are just two points back of Northeast Division leader Buffalo with a game in hand. First to last in the Northeast Division is separated by a mere three points.

After starting the season 3-1-0, the Islanders have lost 10 of 12 games and have the fewest points in the East, although they are coming off a 4-3 victory over Montreal on Thursday night. The Bruins defeated the Isles 6-2 on Monday, November 7 in Boston in their lone meeting this season.

The visit to Montreal will be Boston’s second of the season, as the two teams met at the Bell Centre on October 29 with the Habs claiming a 4-2 victory. The Canadiens are 4-4 in the month of November.

Wednesday’s tilt with Buffalo will be the first matchup since the Milan Lucic/Ryan Miller collision on November 12. Miller was injured in that game and has been sidelined with a concussion since. Forward Thomas Vanek is tied for the second most points in the league with 23 points on 11 goals and 12 assists.

All of these games can be viewed on NESN and heard on 98.5 The Sports Hub. Saturday and Wednesday’s game start at 7, while the puck drops in Montreal at 7:30 on Monday. Please note that Monday’s game is a non-VERSUS exclusive broadcast, meaning it can be seen on VERSUS nationally but will be on NESN in the New England market.

NEELY, BRUINS EXECS, ALUMNI HELP THOSE IN NEED: Bruins President Cam Neely will join Bruins executives and alumni at the Garden Neighborhood Charities 16th annual “Table of Friends” event on Tuesday, November 22 at the TD Garden from 1 – 3 p.m. The Bruins will help serve a traditional Thanksgiving style meal to more than 700 guests from local shelters in the Greater Boston area.

Table of Friends By the Numbers:
600 pounds of turkey are served, 700 pounds of stuffing, 25 gallons of gravy, 400 pounds of mashed potatoes, 200 pounds of carrots, 75 pounds of green beans, 106 dozen rolls and 8 gallons of cranberry sauce

THANKSGIVING SHOWDOWN: The Bruins annual Black Friday matinee will put the B’s against the Detroit Red Wings on Friday, November 25 at 1:00 p.m. in the first ever Thanksgiving Showdown. This game will be televised nationally on NBC. The broadcast launches NBC’s coverage of the NHL for the season, making it the earliest NHL regular season broadcast on national U.S. network television in more than 20 years.

The Black Friday matinee has been a Bruins tradition since 1990.

CAMPBELL TO DONATE PIES ON THANKSGIVING MORNING: For the second straight year, Bruins forward Gregory Campbell will donate pies to local shelters and food banks on Thanksgiving morning, November 24. The Bruins will release more details on timings and locations later in the week.

SEGUIN SHOW: Bruins soph Tyler Seguin was named the NHL’s First Star of the Week for the week ending November 13, after tallying four goals and two assists in three games last week. The 19-year-old has registered the third most goals in the league with 11, ranks tied for tenth in points with 20 and second in plus/minus (+15).

B’S RATINGS UP: Thursday night’s 2-1 shootout win over Columbus received a 6.1 HH rating on NESN, the third time in the last five games that NESN has set a new season high game rating (11/7 vs. Islanders – 5.2, 11/15 vs. Devils – 5.3). The three games now stand as the 3rd, 4th and 5th highest rated regular season games in NESN history. In addition to the 6.1 HH rating, Thursday’s game earned a 9.9 share in the Boston DMA and peaked at an 8.8 HH rating during the 9:30 quarter hour. Entering Thursday’s game NESN’s season average was at 3.9, which is up 46% over last year after the same number of games. (Source: NESN)

CLOSING IN ON 100: After the Bruins/Blue Jackets game on Thursday, the Bruins have now sold out their last 97 consecutive games at the TD Garden, including regular season and playoffs. This streak began on December 5, 2009 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The last game the Bruins did not have 17,565 in attendance at the Garden was on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 when they hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning (16,553).

BOSTON MEDIA TWEET OF THE WEEK: A flurry of solid tweets from @TheBruinsBlog (Matt Kalman, The Bruins Blog) wasn’t enough to top @douglasflynn (Doug Flynn, NESN.com) this week, who captures his first TOTW of the 2011-12 season.

@douglasflynn: “Amazing thing is even without further discipline, Shanahan still had more response to Lucic hit than the Sabres did.”

And here are this week’s runners up in no particular order:
@TheBruinsBlog after Brad Marchand’s goalie interference penalty vs. NJ: “Can’t wait until Marchand’s hearing tomorrow. Maybe he can call #RyanMiller as a character witness.”

@HacksWithHaggs (Joe Haggerty, CSNNE.com) on the same subject: “Lindy Ruff & Ryan Miller just high-fived each other in Buffalo after Brad Marchand was called for a soft goaltender interference infraction.”

@TheBruinsBlog after the Quebec prosecutors announced there would be no charges filed against Zdeno Chara: “Hope Dave Stubbs can sleep tonight knowing Zdeno Chara will be walking the streets and coming to town next week.”

Also, honorable mention goes to the Content Manager over at SonicBids Jeff Israel (@jeffisrael25) who sent out a number of Lucic/Miller related tweets that while clever and humorous, were unable to be considered due to language.
