BOSTON - Tonight’s ceremonial puck drop in honor of Veteran’s Day was conducted by Lt. Charlie Jacobs (no relation to the Bruins’ ownership family) and his parents, Daron and Lori Jacobs, of Pembroke, MA.
Lt. Jacobs has been stationed in Afghanistan for the past seven months with the 182nd MASS Army National Guard out of Middleboro, MA. He had bought tickets for his parents to attend tonight’s game and unbeknownst to them, had also bought tickets for himself and two friends to surprise them in their seats, as they came to the game tonight with no idea that their son had returned from his deployment.
The MASS Army National Guard contacted the Bruins with this story and the Bruins then contacted Lt. Jacobs’ parents to ask them to participate in tonight’s ceremonial puck drop, representing their son and all other military members and their families during this Veteran’s Day week.
Lt. Jacobs was also contacted to arrange his surprise reunion to take place at center ice with his parents.
