Bruins Week Ahead
THIS WEEK'S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS:
HOMESTAND ROLLS ON: Winners of four straight, the Bruins continue their season long five-game homestand this week with home tilts against the Buffalo Sabres (Saturday, November 12), New Jersey Devils (Tuesday, November 15) and Columbus Blue Jackets (Thursday, November 17). The B’s wrap up the week with a visit to the New York Islanders on Saturday, November 19 on Long Island.

Buffalo comes to town with 18 points, good for 7th in the Eastern Conference. Forward Thomas Vanek is currently tied for second in the NHL in goals with 10 and has a team best 18 points. Backup goaltender Jhonas Enroth has surprisingly put up better numbers than Ryan Miller during the early part of the season. Enroth is unbeaten in four decisions with a 4-0-0 record, 1.41 Goals Against and .952 Save Percentage, while Miller is off to a 5-5-0 start with a 2.74 GAA and .913 Save Percentage.

With 15 points, the Patrik Elias/Ilya Kovalchuk/Zach Parise-led New Jersey Devils are in 9th place in the East while struggling Columbus currently has the worst record in the league, as they have stumbled to a 2-12-1 record through their first 15 games.

All of these games have the same start time/broadcast info, as they all begin at 7 p.m. ET and can be watched on NESN and heard on 98.5 The Sports Hub.

MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT: Tuesday’s game against the Devils is “Military Appreciation Night” at the TD Garden. Johnny Boychuk, Andrew Ference, Nathan Horton, Milan Lucic and Dennis Seidenberg have all donated $5,000 apiece so that military members and their families can attend the game. The Bruins will honor military members and their families throughout the evening through a variety of pregame, in-game and postgame activities.

MO-VEMBER: Bruins Patrice Bergeron and Shawn Thornton will be leading the Mo-Vember fundraising for the Bruins this year, by maintaining mustaches throughout the month. Fans can visit the www.bostonbruins.com/movember page and learn how to donate to Bergeron and Thornton’s efforts or how to start their own Mo-vember fundraising page. BostonBruins.com will track the player’s progress throughout the month by adding photos regularly. All money collected will benefit prostate-cancer related research and funding.

RATINGS: Monday’s 6-2 win over the Islanders delivered a 5.2 household rating on NESN, the third highest regular season Bruins rating in network history. NESN’s average game rating so far this season has grown to a 3.6 household rating, up more than 40% over last year after the same number of games.

ALL STAR VOTING ON NHL.COM: Six B’s made the NHL all-star ballot, which was unveiled today: Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chara, Nathan Horton, David Krejci, Milan Lucic and Tim Thomas. Voting begins on nhl.com on Monday, Nov. 14.

STREAKS EXTENDED: Bruins have won four in a row… Milan Lucic has goals in five straight games, a career best… Boston’s win over Edmonton was their 10th straight victory over the Oilers… Tyler Seguin has points in five straight games and goals in three straight games, both career longs… Brad Marchand has points in four straight games.

ATTENDANCE NOTE: Including the Bruins/Oilers game on Thursday, the Bruins have now sold out their last 94 consecutive games at the TD Garden, including regular season and playoffs. This streak began on December 5, 2009 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The last game the Bruins did not have 17,565 in attendance at the Garden was on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 when they hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning (16,553).

BOSTON MEDIA TWEET OF THE WEEK: The Boston Globe’s Fluto Shinzawa goes back-to-back and leaps to the top of the Tweet of the Week leaderboard with his second straight win. Here is the winning tweet…

@GlobeFluto: “Huge asteroid (1/4 mile wide) to pass by Earth. Won’t hit. Known to astronomers as Komisarek.”

And here are this week’s runners up in no particular order:
@GlobeKPD (Kevin Paul Dupont, Boston Globe) after the Bruins hung five goals on Leafs goaltender (and Cornell alum) Ben Scrivens: “Big Red for Scrivens Sat was light behind his net.”

@DouglasFlynn (Doug Flynn, NESN.com) during the Bruins/Oilers game: “Little disappointed in #Bruins. Took a whole 1:44 between those 2 goals. Better pick up pace, that's not supposed to take more than a minute.”

@DJ_Bean (DJ Bean, WEEI.com): “Ference won’t return. He has a case of the undisclosed.” And “NHL Draft fans will love tonight's Bruins/Oilers matchup. Two big names from same class: Zach Hamill vs. Sam Gagner.”
