THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS...

BRUINS SIGN PROSPECT MILLER: Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the team has signed defenseman Kevan Miller to an entry-level contract. The 23-year-old Miller played collegiately at the University of Vermont where he skated in 144 games over his four-year career with five goals and 25 assists for 30 points. He appeared in six games for the Providence Bruins last year on a tryout basis and registered nine penalty minutes. This season, he has played in five games for the P-Bruins with 0-2=2 totals and seven penalty minutes.

Miller attended Boston’s full training camp this preseason but was released to Providence’s camp on September 23. The 6’2’’ 200-pound native of Los Angeles, CA originally joined the Boston organization as an undrafted college free agent last year.

BOSTON MEDIA TWEET OF THE WEEK: Entering Thursday, it appeared as though the TOTW was heading to Morrissey Boulevard, as Boston Globe writers @GlobeKPD (Kevin Paul Dupont, Boston Globe) and @GlobeFluto (Fluto Shinzawa, Boston Globe) were neck and neck coming down the stretch. However, last year’s champ @DJ_Bean (DJ Bean, WEEI.com) swooped in during the Bruins/Leafs game Thursday evening to claim the Week 2 prize with this clever tweet playing off the “Thank you Kessel” chants from the TD Garden crowd:

@DJ_Bean (DJ Bean, WEEI.com): “Kelly makes it 3-1. If this game were against OTT there’d be a serious “thank you 2nd-rd pick” chant going on right now.”

And here are the runners up:
@GlobeKPD (Kevin Paul Dupont, Boston Globe) after the Carolina/Boston fisticuffs: “If Milbury still had his NESN gig, you know he’d be sitting at the desk now, with both shoes on countertop. And drooling.”

@GlobeFluto (Fluto Shinzawa, Boston Globe): “Phil Kessel killing penalty and wearing letter. End is near?”

@GlobeFluto after the multiple game misconducts during the Canes/B’s game: “Several nights at office over early. Popeye’s still open for delivery?”
