Postgame Reaction: Game 7 vs. Vancouver

One more time—Stanley Cup Champions.

“Awesome, awesome, it was better than awesome,” Bruins forward Milan Lucic said after the game.

The Boston Bruins won the Stanley Cup Championship on the back of two goals each by Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron tonight with the 4-0 victory in Game 7 in Vancouver.

Tim Thomas made 37 en route to the shutout and the Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP.

“I mean, it's great, it's something I'm going to look back on forever, you know, and be proud of,” Thomas said after the game.

The Bruins got out to the early lead with Bergeron’s first goal of the night 14:37 into the game. The B’s maintained pressure in Vancouver’s zone throughout the entire game and anything the Canucks did throw Boston’s way was handled with poise and incredible goaltending by Thomas.

“We wanted to come out on our toes today and try to get the first goal. That’s what happened and I thought we played great all 60 minutes,” B’s forward David Krejci told Comcast SportsNet’s Mike Giardi.

The second period saw the Bruins pull away, scoring two more goals. Marchand started the second period off with the hardest-working goal in the game at the 12:13 mark. Bergeron followed that up with his second goal of the night just over five minutes later.

“It was ridiculous, you know, both of the times, it doesn't matter how many goals you score in a game, It's the win that matters. They won those one-nothing games, you know, they made it tough, we just kept pushing hard, we wanted to battle, we wanted to prove we were the better team,” Marchand said after the game.

“And we did.”

The B’s held the 3-0 lead into the second intermission and never looked back. Marchand netted the empty net goal with less than three minutes to go to seal the victory and send the streets of Boston into a frenzy.

The entire Bruins roster was on hand to celebrate the victory on the ice in Vancouver, including injured forward Nathan Horton, whose appearance around the team after suffering a concussion in Game 1, provided the B’s with the emotional lift they needed to bring home the cup.

“This is the chance of a lifetime,” Horton said.

“Words can’t describe how happy I am.”

While Horton’s ear-to-ear smile leaves no question as to his happiness, perhaps no one Bruins is any happier than President Cam Neely. The Cup eluded Neely in his playing days, but after taking over the presidency of the B’s and shaping the team into the championship squad they are today, Neely finally got to lift the Cup.

“You dream about this as a player, you think about what it's going to be like to win the Stanley Cup and you know. I've gone to the Final a couple of times, never got a chance to win it,” Neely said.

“But this is an incredible feeling.”
