BOSTON, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has recalled forward Zach Hamill from the Providence Bruins (American Hockey League). Hamill will join the team for Friday’s practice at Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington at 11:30.
This season, he leads the P-Bruins in assists with 25, and is second on the team in scoring with 3-25=28 totals in 44 games. Hamill has previously been called up to Boston once during the regular season, getting an assist in his first and only NHL appearance to date in a 4-3 shootout win over the Washington Capitals on April 11th, 2010.
The 22-year-old Hamill was selected by the Bruins in the first round (eighth overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to joining the Providence Bruins in 2008, the 5’11 180-pound Port Coquitlam, British Columbia native spent the previous five seasons playing junior hockey as a member of the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League in Canada. Hamill is Everett’s all-time leader in assists and points with 175 and 262, respectively, to go along with 87 career goals.
During the 2008-09 season with the P-Bruins, Hamill posted 13-13=26 totals and 40 penalty minutes while being limited to 65 games due to a thumb injury. During the 2009-10 season, Hamill posted 14-30=44 totals in 75 games.
