Trent Whitfield Clears Waivers

BOSTON, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that forward Trent Whitfield has cleared waivers and will be assigned to the Providence Bruins, pending a physical (American Hockey League).
Whitfield is in his 13th pro season, however a ruptured Achilles tendon suffered during the 2010 offseason had sidelined him indefinitely this year. 2010-11 marks Whitfield’s second season with the Bruins organization. Last year, Whitfield split the season between Boston and Providence and skated in 16 regular season games for Boston and registered one assist. He also appeared in four playoff games. With the P-Bruins he recorded 17-26=43 totals in 52 games in addition to serving as the team captain.
The 32-year-old Whitfield was signed by the Bruins as a free agent on July 13, 2009. In 193 career NHL games with the Capitals, Rangers, Blues and Bruins, he has registered 11 goals, 18 assists and 104 penalty minutes.
The 2010-2011 Boston Bruins season is presented by the Massachusetts State Lottery.
