Prospect Report: Knight
BostonBruins.com -- There's no doubt that Jared Knight can put the puck in the net.

Knight
In 163 career games with the OHL's London Knights, Knight has 65 goals and 56 assists for 121 points.

But before he left for his junior season, Boston’s second round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft was challenged by the B's brass to round out his game.

"They said I could score, but they really wanted me to work on my defensive play," said Knight, an 18-year-old Battle Creek, Michigan native. "I guess it was the little things -- getting the puck out of your own zone and things like that.”

Through 33 games this season, Knight has a 14-20-34 line, and feels good about his progress on both sides of the ice.

"Personally I’ve been doing well," he said. "I don’t think I’ve scored as much as I did last year at this time, but…there are very few players who can play in the NHL just based on goal scoring.

"They have to be good in their own zone, so I think that’s one of the things I really worked on over the course of the season."

Knight also finds himself working and wanting to be a leader in London's locker room.

"I am one of the older guys, so I do need to set an example," he said. "I need to be one of the guys who play in all three zones...and show the younger guys how it’s done."

Jared added that he learned a lot during his time with the Bruins during the summer and fall of 2010.

"I saw how they prepared and I think that’s really the biggest difference between the NHL and the OHL," said Knight of his time in Boston. "They treat their bodies like temples.

"It’s pretty awesome to see what they do, as far as how they warm up…and their diet before the game."Those are the things that I've tried to take back to London and apply to my game."
