Bruins Week Ahead: 12.26 - 12.31
THE BOSTON BRUINS WEEK AHEAD
DECEMBER 26 – DECEMBER 31

THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS...
NO SUSPENSION FOR LUCIC: Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli issued the following statement regarding the NHL’s disciplinary hearing with forward Milan Lucic:

“The NHL has informed us that Milan will not be suspended as a result of the match penalty assessed to him during our game against the Thrashers last Thursday. He will be fined $2,500 for the punch thrown in the scrum and $1,000 for making an obscene gesture directed at the Thrashers bench. He will join the team on the flight to Florida and be available for Monday’s game against the Panthers.”

The match penalty was assessed to Lucic at 15:54 of the third period in the Bruins/Thrashers game on Thursday, December 23. The hearing was held via teleconference on Sunday, December 26.

Lucic and the rest of the Bruins will travel to Sunrise, FL on Sunday for their five-game road trip through Sunrise, Tampa, Atlanta, Buffalo and Toronto. Lucic will be available to the media to comment on the findings on Monday in Sunrise.

B’S HEAD SOUTH: The Bruins will embark on their longest continuous road trip of the season today, with five consecutive games on the road in eight days (the team has six straight road games at the end of February however that is broken into two separate trips). The team has back-to-backs with Florida and Tampa Bay before heading to Atlanta to face the Thrashers on December 30. Members of the media traveling on the trip should be aware that the team will practice in Duluth, GA at the Thrashers practice facility on December 29 and December 31. After their practice on the 31st, the team will fly to Buffalo to finish up the trip with a New Year’s Day tilt against the Sabres and a January 3 date with the Leafs.

FLIGHT MOVED UP: In order to beat the impending snowstorm expected to hit New England Sunday and Monday, the Bruins will fly out of Hanscom Field at 1:00 p.m. today instead of 1:30 p.m.

THORNTON HITS CAREER HIGH: Bruins forward Shawn Thornton tallied his sixth and seventh goals of the season on Thursday against Atlanta, marking a new career high. It was his second career two-goal game.

BRUINS HOLIDAY TOURNEY RETURNS TO HAVERHILL: The Boston Bruins are returning to the Haverhill Valley Forum to host the third annual “Boston Bruins Holiday Tournament” from Monday, December 27 through Thursday, December 30. The event will feature Mite and Squirt squads playing in a minimum of three games over a four-day period. Net proceeds from the tournament will go to the Boston Bruins Foundation.

2ND NEELY SK8 ANNOUNCED: Beginning the weekend of February 4 and continuing throughout the month, the Boston Bruins Foundation and The Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care are hosting the second annual "Neely SK8 Challenge" skate-a-thon presented by Liberty Mutual Insurance. The Neely SK8 Challenge helps raise funds for children battling cancer and their families.

Bruins fans of all ages can register to skate at one of the five FMC participating rinks.  Each skate date will be a private Neely SK8 event. Skaters can create a personalized fundraising page for family and friends to make a pledge and follow participants’ fundraising progress by visiting www.neelysk8.com. Last year, skaters raised more than $130,000.

BRUINS PROSPECT REPORT: The Bruins Communications Staff has created the Boston Bruins Prospect Report, which will be emailed out every two weeks. The Report will contain updated statistical information, news and notes on all players in the Bruins system, as well as a “Prospect Spotlight” section that will highlight two players in a feature article format. The next report will be sent out on December 31.
