"That’s the biggest crowd I’ve ever played in front of," said Spooner of the 14,180 in the TD Garden, part of a 25,651 two-day total. "I’ve been dreaming of this for a while.
"It’s not a real NHL game, it’s just a rookie game, but it was special for me.
"Hopefully I get to do something like this again," he said.
New York's Tony Romano opened the scoring at 12:34 of the first as he beat Boston goalie Mike Hutchinson (33 saves) and it looked for a while as if Islanders netminder Kevin Poulin (31 saves) might steal one from the Bruins.
But with less than three minutes remaining in the second, Max Sauve, who assisted on both of Spooner's goals, shot from the top of the left cicle, which created a rebound that Spooner put away to tie the contest.
"I got great passes from Sauve," said Spooner. "The last pass in the overtime was awesome.
"I just went in and shot five-hole. Most of the credit should go to him because without that pass, I wouldn’t have been on a breakaway."
