Boston Bruins Summer Camp in its Second Session
BostonBruins.com -- This week the Boston Bruins host the second session of their inaugural “Boston Bruins Summer Camp,” for youth hockey players ages 7-14 at Haverhill's Valley Forum.

Ray Bourque
The camp is presented conjunction with ProAmbitions Hockey, now in its twentieth year, and features guest instructors from B's teams past and present.

Current B’s goaltender Tuukka Rask, Bob Sweeney, Terry O’Reilly, Bruce Shoebottom, and Hall of Fame defenseman Ray Bourque have all made appearances at this week’s session, which concludes on Friday.

Clearly, the atmosphere at the camp reminds the pros what it was like in their own youth.

“Yeah -- both running and hockey camps -- this is where it all starts for us,” Bourque said when asked if being at Valley Forum brought back memories.“When we start playing hockey, we do the camps in the summer.”

The Boston Bruins Summer Camp provides youth hockey player with the opportunity to reach their full potential and includes 37.5 hours of hockey specific training with both on and off-ice conditioning.

“Both sides of it are really fun,” Bourque continued.  “As a kid, you get to meet some different kids or just kids that you don’t know, and good instructors, and as a teacher, teaching kids.

"Seeing a kid at the beginning and end of the week and seeing some progress and getting to know the kids is really fun.”

The support from the Bruins has helped enrich the experience for the young players.  Bourque emphasized how important it is that the team stays active in the community and involved -- especially with the youth hockey players in the area.

“The Bruins have a long tradition of a lot of great players and great teams, and I think it’s fun to have these kids meet these guys," Bourque said.

The Hockey Hall of Famer reminded reporters how rich the New England area is with youth hockey talent.

“There are so many kids playing hockey here in Massachusetts and having the Bruins run a camp makes total sense," said Bourque. "so I think it’s a great thing.”

Bourque also said he hopes the kids take away valuable lessons from camp.

“You’ve got some good people out here trying to teach you, so hopefully the kids are paying attention and going out and working hard," said the Black & Gold legend. "By doing that, they’ll go out and get better.”
