Seguin Looks to Seize the Opportunity
Wilmington, MA – Now that the dust surrounding the 2010 NHL Entry Draft has settled, talk of Taylor Hall vs. Tyler Seguin has can be officially put to rest – for now.

“Oh, it’s nice,” said Seguin when asked how it felt to not have to answer any more questions on the topic. “I don’t what questions you can even ask me with those out of the picture.”

Seguin can now call Boston home, and the second overall selection is certainly excited to be able to begin his journey to NHL at long last.

“My goal is to come in, make an impression, work my hardest and earn a spot.

“I want to be an impact player in my rookie year.”

On his road to playing at the TD Garden with the B’s, Seguin’s journey took directly through Wilmington, Massachusetts for the Bruins fourth annual development camp.

The camp brought together Bruins prospects for a weeklong conditioning camp that featured team-building activities between the players, many of which were rivals from their junior clubs.

“There [was] actually a Windsor Spitfire, [development camp invitee] Marc Cantin, in camp,” said Seguin about the Windsor defenseman who covered him during the postseason clash between Cantin’s Spitfires and Seguin’s Plymouth Whalers. “He was all over me in the [postseason] series and earlier in the year.

“There are actually a couple OHL rivals in here.”

Despite the spotlight that has followed Seguin since the draft with his obvious high skill level, Seguin was challenged at camp by the likes of fellow first rounders Joe Colborne and Jordan Caron

“Everyone has the same circumstances, so you just need to go out there and work your hardest,” Seguin said about participating in camp with the other prospects.

“I think everyone is good at what they do and [were here] for a reason.”

He also knows that making the Bruins roster next year will be no easy task.

“We’re all out there competing for our spots in the team,” he said. “We’re all friends, but at the same time we’re all enemies.”

Still, it’s impossible to escape Seguin’s popularity. Each day of the camp, fans lined up outside Ristuccia Arena chanting his name, waiting for autographs or just a glimpse of the new forward.

“The fans know who we are,” he said. “I know the atmosphere here will be phenomenal and I know I'm coming to quite the market for sports.”

Now that development camp is over, Seguin turns his attention toward the next obstacle on his road to the NHL – the Bruins’ official preseason training camp in September.

While speaking about his time spent in the rookie development camp, Seguin noted that he was outside his comfort level.

“It was very professional, a little different from what I'm used to.”

While the big camp is quickly approaching, Seguin is maintaining the attitude that has brought him to the point he is at today.

“My philosophy all year has been to do my own thing and stay focused,” he said. “My expectations for myself are that I'm going to get an opportunity this summer and right now, with camp coming up ahead, I'm going to go in there and work my hardest and hopefully earn a spot on this club next year.”

As the surreal summer training slowly begins to turn into the reality of the winter season, Seguin looks forward to having a shot to break into the NHL.

“I know there’s going to be a good opportunity," said Seguin. “I just have to seize the opportunity.

"It’s all about earning stuff in life and I want to earn my spot and get respect.”
