This Crimson Wears Black & Gold
Boston, MA -- Harvard University's Alexander Fallstrom strolled across the lobby and looked happy to find a friendly face in a Boston Bruins polo. The well-spoken young man introduced himself politely and agreed to talk about his first season under former Crimson and Boston Bruins forward Ted Donato.

"It was a good experience," said Fallstrom. "We had kind of a tough year, but it was a great lesson and I think it was a good way to get into college hockey.

"I like what he is doing with the team and I really think we’re going to have a lot of success next year."

Selected in the fourth round (116th pick overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by Minnesota, Fallstrom's draft rights traded to Boston Bruins Oct. 18, 2009 as part of the transaction which sent Chuck Kobasew to the Wild.

"Actually I was really happy because I think it may be a lot easier for me [to make a good impression]," said the 6'2", 200-pound forward. "When I talked to Minnesota they said they would come out and watch me just once or twice maybe and that would put a lot of extra pressure on my game.

"But having the Bruins so close makes it a lot easier for me and I was really happy about it."

In 32 games Fallstrom was 4-12-16. The power forward scored his first career collegiate goal in a 3-2 Harvard win against the Yale Bulldogs on January 12.

Fallstrom said that working with Donato, a former B's spark plug, has been a great help towards his goal of the NHL.

"Yeah it helps a lot," said Fallstrom. "He also went to Harvard, he played all four years there and then he played for the Bruins.

"Having a coach that kind of went through the same path is kind of comforting and he really knows what it takes, which is really good I think."

But Fallstrom already had plenty of good experience.

Alex, who hails from Stockholm, Sweden, spent two years at Shattuck-St. Mary's School in Faribault, Minnesota and captained the team as a senior. He led SSM in scoring with 87 points on 40 goals and 47 assists in 2008-09 and helped the team capture the 2008 USA Hockey Tier I 18 and Under National Championship.

Thanks to his time in Minnesota the well-spoken Fallstrom speaks flawless English ("My cousins are all from England, so I spent a lot of time with them when I was younger") and is thinking about a concentration in Economics at Harvard.
"Yeah I’m going to take two Economics classes and then I have a language requirement to fulfill and a math requirement," said Fallstrom of his sophomore year. "So it will be a lot of Economics and math so it will be interesting."

So will his first Development Camp for the Bruins.

"Yeah, it’s going to be tough but I think since we’re all in it together it’ll be a lot easier and I talked to [veteran campers] Mark Goggin and Tommy Cross at one of the Bruins games earlier this year and they said it was tough but they all said it was a really good time," he said. "It’s going to be good to see what [the Bruins] have to say about me and about what they think I should improve on.

"It’s really exciting."
