Seidenberg Excited to Remain a Bruin
Boston, MA -- Bruins fans have another reason to be looking forward to the 2010-11 season.

Today, via conference call, Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced that the club has signed defenseman Dennis Seidenburg to a four-year contract extention.

Seidenberg
"I’m excited to be part of this organization and I think Boston is a great town, a  great hockey town," said Seidenburg. "The guys are great and the future for our organization looks really good with all these young guys coming in and us...and having a good mix between younger and older guys."

"We ought to be really competitive the next couple of years."

The 28-year-old Seidenberg is a veteran of 374 regular season NHL games and has  compiled 18 goals, 98 assists and 116 points in his seven NHL seasons. This season  marked Seidenberg’s first with the Bruins, as he was traded from Florida to Boston with Matt Bartkowski at the trade deadline (March 3, 2010) for Craig  Weller, Byron Bitz and a 2010 second round pick.

"There is definitely a motivation to go further this year," said Seidenberg. "But when I watched those  games it was just kind of me more being annoyed and not being able to help the  guys.

"But I think overall they’ve done a tremendous job just going this far and you know...I just hate watching and hopefully that not going to happen again, so I can be part of the success next year."

Boston is the fifth NHL team for Seidenberg who has also skated with Philadelphia, Phoenix, Carolina and Florida. The blueliner has appeared in 19 postseason games during his career with Philadelphia and Carolina and registered 1-5=6 totals in those contests.

Chiarelli was happy to get Dennis signed for the next few years.

"When we acquired Dennis we valued him as a strong two-way defenseman and he showed that style of play," said Chairelli. "He showed his strength and he showed it in the match up role and he showed an offensive side to his game that we knew he had."

Seidenberg skated in 17 games this year with the Black & Gold and tallied 2 goals, 7 assists  and 9 points. On the season with Boston and Florida, Seidenberg set career highs in  games played (79), assists (28) and points (32), in addition to potting four goals.

He also led the NHL in blocked shots with 215.

Seidenberg missed the final four games of the regular season and the entire playoffs after sustaining a lacerated tendon in his forearm during the Bruins/Maple Leafs  game on April 3. He had surgery to repair the tendon on April 6 and the recovery  time was eight weeks.

Chiarelli was not concerned about his defenseman's recent injury.

"We finished the deal yesterday and we had to get the signoff on his wrist," explained  Chiarelli. "We flew Dennis to from Florida up to Boston and we had the wrist exam  and everything was good so we consummated a new deal."

Seidenberg played for Team Germany at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver and has been a teammate of the Boston Bruins Marco Sturm on the German squad in four international tournaments  (2001 Worlds, 2002 Olympics, 2008 Worlds, 2010 Olympics).

Seidenberg, the 6’1”, 210-pound native of Schwenningen, Germany, was selected by the Philadelphia  Flyers in the sixth round (172nd overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
