Though most of the B’s spent their time playing soccer, working out, or resting their bumps and bruises, those who did not skate last night took to the Wachovia Center ice this morning to stay sharp.
The recovering Mark Stuart skated, as well as Providence transplants Trent Whitfield, Brad Marchand, Andy Wozniewski, Andrew Bodnarchuk and Jeffrey Penner. Goaltenders Tim Thomas and Dany Sabourin backstopped the practice.
However, the big story in the visiting locker room was the loss of David Krejci for the remainder of the season. The Bruins announced earlier today that the centerman suffered a dislocated right wrist and underwent surgery last night. The injury was a result of a hard hit from Flyer Mike Richards in the first period of last night’s game.
With only one win separating them and the next round, the Bruins are painfully aware that Krejci’s absence will be felt, and other players will be forced to step up.
“The one thing that we were fortunate with yesterday was that we had five centerman in our lineup. I think that’s a position that that’s not an easy one to play,” said Bruins head coach Claude Julien. “Having that we were able to continue with four centermen up the middle.
“It really paid off yesterday.”
Though no decisions have been made on who will fill in for Krejci, Julien said he has faith in all his players abilities.
“We’ve got a lot of guys that have been around our team now for a while. I think I’m going to keep my decision probably for tomorrow,” said Julien. “I’ve still got a whole day to sort things out here and we’ve got a lot of guys capable of jumping in and doing the job.
“It’s a matter of picking and choosing who we want.”
