Savard is Ready to Return
Boston, MA -- Beyond the news that they would be enjoying home ice in the second round, on Wednesday the Boston Bruins enjoyed the sight of Marc Savard donning a white practice jersey and plowing through a major league work out -- and then some.

Savard, who was the first Bruins player on the ice for Tuesday's practice, was also one of the last of the Black & Gold to leave the ice. Savard worked out extensively with the "Black Aces" (or the P-Bruins players who are practicing with the B's) and afterward looked healthy and happy.

"I’m feeling great," said Savard. "I’m excited and obviously really happy, especially the way the guys played and I was able to get a couple more days right now, so that was great.

"It was a good plan all along."

That plan went into overdrive on Tuesday as Savard tested his legs and his hands.

"Today, I guess, was my last, kind of, test," said Savard. "It felt like the Boston Marathon [and] I guess that “Heartbreak Hill” or whatever it’s called.

"They made it pretty tough today, but I got through it and I skated hard in practice too. I gave it everything I have and it was a good test.

"I’m feeling great and I’m really excited to get the opportunity to play in the playoffs again," he said.

I'm not going to be a savior here or anything and go out and get three goals in the first game. I'd like to, but I don't think it's going to happen. - Marc Savard
Savard attempted to temper expetations when he spoke to the gathered media.

"I’m not going to be a savior here or anything and go out and get three goals in the first game," said Savard. "I’d like to, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.

"I’m just going to try and work myself in and keep doing what the guys have been doing; just be part of the team and I don’t think it’ll be a problem."

Savard said he had been through this situation before.

In my first playoffs here, I broke my back with eight games left and then I eased myself in and I ended up having a pretty good playoffs, even though we didn’t get to where we wanted to go," said Marc of the B's first round Game 7 exit versus Montreal in 2008.

"[But] I felt good and I think that’s the same situation with how I’m taking it [now]," continued Marc. "I’m going to just ease myself in and work hard and give what I got for how many minutes I play.

"I’m sure I’m obviously going to see power play time and I hope I can contribute there also."

Savard talked about the Flyers.

"Philly’s a good hockey team, they’ve got a lot of great players," he said, before adding, "We just have to worry about ourselves and know that we’re playing a good opponent."

And the most important factor -- as Savard sees it -- is playoff intensity.

"I’m going to be as intense as ever," he said. "I’m a pretty intense guy.

"Everybody wants to win, whether it’s Pittsburgh, Philly, or whoever, I’m going to be ready."
