Marchand Hopes for Lucky Number 13

Marchand
Bostonbruins.com – As Brad Marchand prepares for tonight’s game in Philadelphia, the 21-year-old Providence center is hoping for his chance to play his 13th game with the Boston squad.

In his first NHL game on Oct. 21, the Nova Scotian registered one point and then nothing else in the next 11 appearances. It was a surprising showing for promising player who has 32 points in 34 games so far this season in Providence.

But if he is called on to play tonight, he’s ready to prove himself.

“Last time I came up was kind of an odd scenario and you kind of think the dream’s come true but you don’t really realize how much work you still have to do,” Marchand said. “As I’m coming up this time, I have so much more confidence.

“Even in practices and being around the room, it feels a lot different. So I’m pretty excited about it.”

Wearing number 17 in Providence and 63 in Boston, Marchand has a team-leading +14 rating so far this season with the Baby B’s.

He missed several games late in 2009 with a lower body injury that required surgery. He’s since returned to the ice, eager to help stem the tide of Bruins injuries.

“It was tough to take,” Marchand said of the injury. “Right when it happened there was a bunch of injuries up here [in Boston]. I was disappointed that I might have missed an opportunity and another one might not come along.

“But I got back and I’ve been skating for about a month and a half now. I just try to do as much rehab and really build my strength up as much as I could. I feel like it’s back to the way it was before. I’m happy with it.”

Though it is still unclear whether or not Marchand will get into the lineup tonight, Bruins head coach Claude Julien is confident the young centerman will be prepared when and if he’s called upon.

“He’d done some good things for us and he’s a guy who’s got lots of energy, can shoot the puck well, and he’s got a good attitude,” Julien said. “Right now he’s been practicing hard and he’s ready to go.

“Anytime we’re ready to call on him, I think he’ll jump right in there.”
