Mark Recchi to Carry 2010 Olympic Torch Through His Hometown
BOSTON, MA – On Wednesday, January 27, Boston Bruins forward Mark Recchi will carry the Vancouver 2010 Olympic torch in his hometown of Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. Recchi will light the Olympic cauldron outside the city’s Hillside Stadium, near the Tournament Capital Centre.

The torch will arrive in Kamloops at 4:20 p.m. (local time) Wednesday afternoon and make its way through the city before arriving at Hillside Stadium at 7:00 p.m.

The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch relay passes through Kamloops on Day 90 and will conclude its tour in Vancouver on February 12 to kick-start the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games. The 2010 Olympic torch has passed through more than 1,000 Canadian communities since it arrived in the nation on October 29, 2009.

Recchi played for Team Canada at the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan, where the team finished fourth. The veteran forward recently passed Bruins legend John Bucyk for tenth place on the NHL’s all-time games played list with 1,541 games played. Recchi has played in 51 games for the Bruins this season, earning 9-18=27 totals. Over his 22-year NHL career, Recchi has posted 554-915=1469 totals, making him the all-time active leader in assists and points. The two-time Stanley Cup champion was acquired by Boston on March 4, 2009 from Tampa Bay with a 2010 second round draft pick for Matt Lashoff and Martins Karsums.
