Game Day: Bruins @ Hurricanes
4:42 p.m.
Tim Thomas is in goal, folks. Still awaiting word on the final lineup. Head over to the live blog for up-to-the second coverage.

3:07 p.m.
Before he left for the airport for the Bruins trip to Carolina, David Krejci talked to the media about the Bruins loss, but he really didn't have much to say.

"I guess I’m just very upset about the score right now and just don’t want to say anything," he said. "I've got to calm my nerves down."

To his credit, Krejci worked through a short interview and, as he searched for words, spoke volumes about the frustration he and his teammates are feeling right now.

"Well, it’s tough," he said, "When you go and create some chances and then have a bad break.

"I think you still got to keep going after that.

As he did after the Columbus game, Krejci again took some of the blame for the Ottawa setback on his own shoulders.

"I mean, what happened, happened," he said. "We have good guys here and I think everyone’s going to play their best game.

"For us, we got to find confidence and everyone’s got to do their job.

"I think we got a really good team here, but we’re not showing it ...for the past few games.  And that’s got to change."

Krejci, named to the Czech Olympic hockey team in December, was the talk of the town after his stellar sophomore season. But in describing the B's current starcrossed campaign he repeated an oft-used phrase of the 2009-10 Boston Bruins season.

"Your best players have to be your best players," he said. "you know, they got to do it and I’m one of them.  I have to chip in and make something happen.

"You know, if you want to win, everyone’s got to play their best and we haven’t shown it in a while and that’s [why] we’re not winning."

2:51 p.m.
We're getting closer to gametime. The Bruins have confirmed that Steve Begin, Byron Bitz, Marc Savard and Marco Sturm are in Boston.

11:21 a.m.
No updates from the Carolina contingent as of yet.

The B's are expected to arrive at the RBC Center around 2:30 p.m. and we should hear from Coach Julien at 3:50 p.m. or so.

10:04 a.m.

With a record of 2-7-1 in their last 10 games, and having lost four contests in a row, the Boston Bruins, who dropped a 2-1 decision to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, wake up on the outside looking in in terms of their placement in the Eastern Conference playoff standings (ninth and out of the tournament) and slipping in the Northeast Division rankings (fourth).

"To be honest with you, it’s no lie, it is frustrating for sure," said Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara from the Bruins locker room, postgame. "Nobody says it’s easy when you’re facing challenges, so we just have to...keep plugging away.

"Only we can change it – nobody else can do it for us, so we just have to get a good night’s sleep.

"We know that [Carolina] a much better team than they are in the standings and again, that’s a game where we want to win and try to change some things around," he said.

Effort does not seem to be a problem for Boston, who saw many of the B's most veteran players, like Tim Thomas and Mark Recchi, often be spectacular in their performances on Saturday.

Unfortunately, the Black & Gold were unable to pull off the victory as Recchi had a goal called back after it hit his skate and Thomas, who made several outstanding saves on the afternoon, was bested through the five-hole for the heartbreaking Sens game-winner.

"He just beat me," said Thomas of Jason Spezza's goal. "I saw it, I wasn’t screened. He just beat me.

"I wanted to make that save, but he beat me."

Thomas' admission echoed many of the mea culpas that have been heard around the B's locker room in recent days (the most prominent being Tuukka Rask's and David Krejci's after Thursday's loss to Columbus) and reiterated the frustration the Bruins feel as they try and break through this scary downturn.

"The want is there. The effort is there. The production isn’t," said Thomas. "So yeah, I guess it does get in the guys’ heads.

"You hope as a goalie that one of these days you can steal a game for them and help them to get confidence," he said.

You could see those same sentiments all around the ice on Saturday. Saves, blocked shots, hits and several near misses told a tale of utter desperation.

"Yeah, I don’t know how you get out of that," said Thomas. "As a player sometimes you can work harder but when you’re working as hard as you can and you’re still not getting results, it’s very tough to get out of.

"I feel bad for the guys in front of me. I see a lot of really good effort in front of me and it’s unrewarded."

Chara explained that desperation can be a tough opponent.

"I think that we all try, sometimes even harder than we should, and maybe that’s just when you’re trying and then you want it so much that it’s actually working against you," said Chara.

"That’s just the nature of it," he continued. "You want to make it happen, you want to score goals, you don’t want to be losing and then you’re pushing, pushing, pushing and sometimes when you push even harder, it’s actually working the other way.

"We just have to relax...and find what we know is in there."
