B\'s Look for Same Effort, Better Result
BostonBruins.com -- The Boston Bruins fell to the Anaheim Ducks Wednesday night in a Southern California nail-biter. The 4-3 loss, which marked Anaheim’s fifth consecutive win, was even harder to swallow because of the team’s tremendous efforts, according to head coach Claude Julien.

“The effort was there tonight and that is what is frustrating,” he said. “The mistakes ended up costing us in the end.

“At the other end, we really challenged them and had some great opportunities, even late in the game…that is what we need, a little bit of anger and guys wanting to get mad and do something about it.”

The B’s, who have struggled with maintaining momentum in the second period, put up three big goals in the middle of the game, by Zdeno Chara, Matt Hunwick and Marco Sturm. However the surge proved to be not enough, as the Ducks pulled ahead in the third and stayed that way until the final buzzer.

The Ducks also led in shots on goal, 32-30, but just barely. Despite early predictions that the Bruins would be overcome by injuries, the teams seemed evenly matched.

“[The Ducks] are on a roll right now,” said forward Mark Recchi. “They are playing well and we came in here and matched them – we went toe-to-toe with them.

“It was a good battle for us.”

Following the game, Julien and several players pointed out that it was only minor mistakes that led to the outcome.

“I thought we battled hard, especially in the second,” said Bruins captain Zdeno Chara. “We had momentum and played a pretty good game. At the end, we made some mistakes that cost us goals.”

As the B’s look to tonight’s game at San Jose, they know what they need to snap their three-game losing streak.

Julien said, “If we can get that same kind of effort and cut down on our mistakes, we will be on the right track.”
