Since signing with the Bruins as a free agent on July 1, 2006, the 32-year-old Savard has led the team in scoring each of the last three seasons, in addition to leading the team’s postseason scoring race each of the last two seasons. Savard has twice finished in the league’s top ten in scoring with 95+ points and has played in two consecutive NHL All-Star Games.
The 5’10’’, 191 pound center appeared in every game for the Bruins last year and registered 25 goals and 63 assists in 82 regular season games, and added six goals and seven assists in 11 postseason contests. He connected for 20+ goals for the fifth time in his career and recorded the third highest point total in his career with 88.
He was originally drafted by the New York Rangers in the fourth round (91st overall) in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He played four seasons of junior hockey in Oshawa, finishing as the Generals’ all- time leading scorer with 413 points in 239 career games was just the third player in OHL history to win two league scoring titles.
The native of Ottawa, Ontario played two seasons in the Rangers organization before going to Calgary in a June, 1999 trade. After three-plus seasons with the Flames, he was traded to Atlanta in November, 2002 and it was with the Thrashers that he recorded career season-highs of 28 goals and 97 points in 2005-06.
Savard has skated in 11 games this year for the Black & Gold and has potted four goals and dished out six assists.
A veteran of 752 games, Savard has tallied 199-474-673 totals in his 13-year NHL career. With the Bruins, he has skated in 249 games and registered 66 goals and 206 assists for 272 points.
