Lightning Predicted for Wednesday
2:48 p.m.
Where were Bergy and Hunwick?
Boston Bruins Claude Julien was asked about his missing players immediately as his postpractice press conference began.

Obviously, everyone wanted to know the condition of Matt Hunwick and Patrice Bergeron.

“Hunwick…missed today,” said Julien. “You will see him on the ice tomorrow.

“Bergy the same thing. He will be in Wednesday, no ifs or buts.

“It was just maintenance like anybody else,” he said.

Julien also answered an obvious question.

Was Bergeron’s absence related to the blocked shot from Saturday?

“Is it due to the other day? Yeah,” said Julien.

Coaching Staff Renewed
The happier line of questioning came when Julien addressed the renewed contracts of his coaching staff.

“That’s been in the works for a while and for me, when my extension was given to me and I was asked about my coaching staff,” said Julien. “I really wanted them to be with me and with Peter.

“We both seem to agree that they’re doing a great job.

Julien explained that his staff is integral to the success of the club.

“As a head coach, if things go well, you get a lot of credit thrown your way, you also get a lot of [junk] thrown your way when things aren’t, but that’s part of I guess the job description,” he said. “But talking about the assistant coaches, they never get enough credit for what they do.

“They do a lot of behind the scenes kind of work and one-on-one and the extra work on the ice and that kind of stuff. So our group is a good group because they all get along, they all have rules, and they all seem to blend in well together with each other and with myself.

“I think it was important for everybody to feel like we had a solid group and I wanted them with me to continue on. So Peter was 100% behind me on that and it’s nice to see it get done. Now we can move on,” he said.

Postpractice: Julien said Hunwick should be back tomorrow and Bergeron will definitely play on Wed.

Meanwhile, as I am going to head into the locker room soon, why not catch up with news about Wednesday's opponent the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Boston faces the Montreal Canadiens on Friday, and that club is back at practice today, too.

My good friends from the Montreal Gazette, Pat Hickey and Dave Stubbs, have everything you need to know about the Habs at

The Bruins face Toronto this weekend and while the return of Phil Kessel will no doubt be the biggest story, there are at least two sidebars -- Mike Komisarek is set to return from injury and the Leafs are fighting at practice.

The B's continue to practice minus Bergeron and Hunwick.

Postgame on Saturday, many of the Bruins commented on Bergeron's being hit with the puck in the first period and his subsequent return and fine play.

"We thought they were going to blow the whistle and he tried to get up and he couldn’t get up and they scored on us right after," said linemate Michael Ryder. "But Bergeron battles and he came back and was a big part of our win tonight."

"Well when he blocked a shot and didn’t get up at first, it makes us worried," said defenseman Dennis Wideman. "But yeah, you need your best players doing stuff like that.

"Bergy is the type of guy that does that on a night in, night out basis.  He blocks shots, he scored, he hits, he works hard.  Those are the guys that win."

Bruins captain Zdeno Chara, who has on more than one occasion played through a great deal of pain, praised his teammate, but said that playing with pain is part of hockey.

"I mean it’s going to happen guys are going to block some shots and take some hits to make plays it’s a game of pain and you have to sacrifice," said Zdeno Chara.

Fellow center David Krejci agreed, but said seeing Bergeron hurt was distressing.

"Obviously it was tough to see him to go down," David Krejci. "He blocked a shot you know and that’s our job.  I guess he got it in a bad spot.

"He battled back and it was good to see him because...I wanted to roll the four lines so it was nice to see him back."

Let's hope he is back tomorrow.

Obviously, Bergeron's absence is a tad distressing, particularly since the B's assistant captain was hobbled during the first period on Saturday night.

"He was hit with a puck," said Julien after the B's 4-3 shootout victory over the Senators.  "That’s what it was.

"He slipped to start with and he tried to get back into the play. He got hit with a shot."

However, at that point the B's head coach had positive news about the center and when he was asked if the injury might be as bad as it may have looked, Julien was emphatic.

"No, I am going to be clear on that," said the coach. "He didn’t roll his ankle or anything. It was the result of the shot.

"He left and he came back [and] I just spoke to him a little while ago.

"He feels fine and hopefully that is the end of it."

Let's hope that Coach Julien's hopes turn into reality.

We'll have the official word after practice.

10:39 a.m.

Defenseman Matt Hunwick and center Patrice Bergeron are not on the ice for practice.

Everyone else is accounted for and there are no new faces here in Ristuccia Memorial Arena.
