B\'s Got their Gray on in The Improper
Boston, MA -- Sure, the Bruins look great in Black & Gold. Donning any other color would certainly be improper -- Improperly sophisticated, that is.

Back in September, Five Bruins players, Marco Sturm, Dennis Wideman, Patrice Bergeron, Marc Savard and Matt Hunwick all put aside their Black & Gold sweaters and “got their gray on” at the W Boston Hotel posing for a recent issue of The Improper Bostonian.

The photo shoot highlighted the latest in fall fashion with pieces from Ermenegildo Zegna, Armani Collezioni, Burberry, Prada, Loro Piana, Co-op, John Varvatos, Etro and Theory.

Each player had their own personal picture along with an entire group shot.

In Sturm’s individual shot he was rocking an Armani Collezioni jacket and pants with a Marni shirt underneath.

“We don’t do that too many times, but [Kim Kennedy] who took the pictures was awesome,” said Sturm. “He was a big hockey fan and he was pretty funny, which made it a lot easier for us.”

“Personally for me, that was exactly the style I wear,” continued Sturm. “I bought the jacket that I had on for the pictures, right away.”

“A lot of times we have the helmet on, no one really knows us, so it was nice to see.

“I think it’s great, a lot of guys already came up to me yesterday and said it was a great picture,” he said.

Hunwick was dressed in a gray sweater from John Varvatos along with a Varvatos shirt and pants.

“Obviously I don’t think we are going to be models, they did a lot of work to help us out,” said the defenseman. “It’s always fun to do something different once in a while.

“[The photographer] kind of guides you through it and tells you what he wants to see, so from that standpoint it’s pretty easy, just follow instructions and try not to blink.”

Savard sported a trench coat from Theory and replaced his helmet with a Loro Piana tuque.

The smooth skating Bergeron looked just as slick off the ice while wearing a black shirt from Burberry and purple tie from Co-op.

Over that he threw on a Prada sweater with some slacks from Etro.

Not to be outdone by Bergeron, Wideman switched from his game-face to his best modeling pose.

Draped in a Burberry coat with an Age shirt along with a gray scarf, the puck moving defenseman looked like he should be traversing Harvard Yard instead of an ice rink.

“It doesn’t look that bad, apparently we shine up ok,” Wideman said while critiquing the pictures for the first time.

Then he laughed and added, “Some of us better than others.”

Wideman enjoyed his latest foray into magazines – he was in the Improper two years ago for their bachelor issue.

“It was fun, it was different,” he said. “I was something I obviously haven’t done, so it was cool.”

When Wideman asked who he thought had the best picture he chose Bergeron.

“I have to go with Bergy I think,” said Wideman. “Look at the Berg. He actually looks like he might do that for a living.”

As for any of the Bruins taking fashion on full time, the chances are slim.

“I don’t know about that,” said Sturm to the notion of switching careers. “I hope we can do more stuff like that, so people can see the other side of us.”
