Boston Bruins Week Ahead: 10\/16-10\/23
THE BOSTON BRUINS WEEK AHEAD
October 16 – October 23

THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS...
HIT THE ROAD: The Bruins will play their first two road games of the 2009-10 season when they visit Western Conference foes Dallas on Friday and Phoenix on Saturday. The Bruins will face the Stars at 8:30 p.m. ET Friday night (TV: NESN, RADIO: 98.5 The Sports Hub) and the Coyotes at 9:00 p.m. ET on Saturday. The Black & Gold are 0-2 against the West this season, with losses against the Ducks and Avalanche.

THREE IN FOUR: The Bruins will play three games in four nights beginning Wednesday when they host the Nashville Predators. Following the game against the Preds, they will travel to Philadelphia for a showdown with the Flyers on Thursday, and will then head up north to take on the Senators in Ottawa on Saturday.

MINI ONE-ON-ONE SUPERSTAR: Nine-year-old Oliver Wahlstrom of the Portland (ME) Junior Pirates has the hockey world buzzing after his spectacular shootout goal during the Bruins Mini One-on-One competition. Check out the goal on www.bostonbruinstv.com

I.C.E: On Tuesday, October 13, the Boston Bruins introduced their comprehensive educational program, "Bruins I.C.E. (I Can Excel) School" presented by AT&T, in elementary school classrooms statewide.  "Bruins I.C.E. School" features six separate academic divisions including Health & Fitness, French, Geography, Math, Reading and Science, with grade appropriate curriculums ranging from kindergarten through fifth grade. Teachers interested in signing up for the program can enroll in the “Community” Section of BostonBruins.com.

98.5 TICKET OFFER: 98.5 The Sports Hub and Metro Boston have teamed up to bring you great lower level seats for $98.50 for all remaining October Bruins home games, including the next home game at the TD Garden. Visit bostonbruins.com and use passcode: SPORTSHUB to take advantage of this great offer.

WHEELER ON TWITTER:  Bruins soph Blake Wheeler “tweets” under the name “NHLBruins” on Twitter. Follow Wheeler to hear the second year pro’s musings about life on and off the ice.

WINTER CLASSIC JERSEY AVAILABLE: Fans can preorder the jersey the Black and Gold will don during the Winter Classic through the Boston Bruins Pro Shop.

THE STAT OF THE WEEK, COURTESY OF THE BOSTON BRUINS WEEK AHEAD STAT MACHINE: Excluding the lockout-shortened 1994-95 season which began in January, this is the latest the Bruins have opened their road schedule since playing their first road game of the 1975-76 season in Detroit on October 16, 1975.

THEY SAID IT…
Mark Recchi, after the team’s loss to Colorado on Monday…
“I think that sometimes when you have success, you forget how hard it is to get success. It’s hard work to get to the top and it takes a lot of courage to get to the top. You have to be willing to pay the price.”

THE BUZZ: NESN’s Naoko Funayama will take you through the latest Bruins news on and off the ice on NESN’s weekly countdown show, The Buzz. Check out his week’s episode for a recap of the 2009-10 Bruins Ice Girls Photo Shoot, a pop culture piece with Milan Lucic and an exclusive interview with Cam Neely. Check your local listings for The Buzz’ airtimes.
