Chara's back...
“Great. Great. Really busy, but it was a great summer,” was Zdeno Chara’s answer to the usual round of post-postseason questions at Wilmington this morning.

Zee, who is now the father of baby Elliz, was asked if his new daughter was cutting into his sleep time over the summer.

“Actually, it wasn’t bad at all,” he said. “It was really good, being a father, and it’s obviously a new experience, but I can’t complain.

“I’m happy that I could enjoy some time with my family.”

The inevitable question – or do you change the diapers – had Mr. Chara grinning.

“I help out any way that I can and obviously that’s part of it,” he said.

As far as his own physical well being is concerned, Chara was straightforward – everything is fine.

“No surgeries [for me], so I mean it’s normal that guys are really hurting after the season,” said Zee. “I had the whole summer to get it together and make sure that I’m ready for next season so everything’s fine.”

And how about having extra motivation as a result of last year’s seventh game loss to Carolina.

“You always want to play as long as you can,” he said. “Obviously, everyone wants to win, but you have to look at it as a positive you know.

“Last year was another step forward in the right direction and we all want to do better this year. So, it’s a lot to look forward to and obviously we have training camp starting in a few weeks and it’s exciting.”

Chara didn’t outline anything in particular when he was queried as to his own game and trying to improve.

“You always try to get better in every area, but you can only do so much,” he said. “Obviously, being in good shape and strength wise and all that, it’s a first step, but all the other things you have to work on the ice.”

12:41 p.m.
Okay. It's lunch time for everyone. We'll have plenty of coverage going forward, but in the meantime, check out this Zdeno Chara interview.

12:15 p.m.
Tuukka and Kevin are picking up the pucks. Looks like things are winding down.

12:04 p.m.
Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara just addressed the media.

"It's been busy, really busy, but it's been a great summer," he said. "It was really good.

"Being a father is obviously a new experience, but I can't complain. I'm happy I could enjoy some time with my family."

11:52 a.m.
I've never seen Marco look happier.

11:46 a.m.
Marco Sturm is on the ice. Neither he nor Krejci are showing much in the way of rust.  They are being careful to be sure, but they look pretty good.

11:42 a.m.

A slow day on the ice. The major discussion in the press box revolves "shockingly" around pizza. My desert island slice: T. Anthony's on Commonwealth Ave.

Shawn Thornton is on the ice, by the way.

11:35 a.m.
Kevin Regan has joined Tuukka and David.

11:25 a.m.
Tuukka is begging for shot and is bugging Krejci as he does his laps.

"I haven't had one shot yet!"

David relented and is taking some careful shots on the young goalie.

11:21 a.m.
David Krejci has joined Rask. BTW: Tuukka looks bigger than last year. He is certainly not as lanky as he looked during preseason last year.

Krejci is all smiles.

11:18 a.m.
Word around the press box is that Tim and Zee got their replica trophies from the NHL, today.

11:16 a.m.
Tuukka Rask is first on, True Believers!

11:14 a.m.
The nets are in...

11:06 a.m.
BostonBruinstv.com's intrepid cameraman Jonathan Gotlib is freezing his rear end off in an effort to get a shot of the first member of the Black & Gold.

His report from ice level: "It's freezing down there...and nobody has their skates on yet!"

11:03 a.m.
We may have a little bit of a wait. Kevin Regan just came out in his shorts and flip flops to work on some equipment.

There are several workbenches in the Ristuccia Memorial, but the players most often use the one to the right of their locker room door.

10:52 a.m.
Add Zdeno Chara and Byron Bitz to the list of B's in the building. Two diehards are already in the stands. Dedication!

Note: Bitz will be arriving in Massachusetts today.

10:35 a.m.
Kevin Regan, Tuukka Rask, Tim Thomas, Marco Sturm and David Krejci are said to be in the building. Shawn Thornton is expected shortly.

10:33 a.m.
The Zamboni is cleaning the ice. No sign of any players -- yet.

9:10 a.m.
Report: Kelly Fired
One more interesting note from the weekend -- TSN.ca and others are reporting that Paul Kelly, the executive director of the National Hockey League Players Association, has been fired.

TSN.ca's Darren Dreger writes:
The decision was made by the NHLPA's executive board, made up of 30 NHL player representatives following several hours of meetings in Chicago.

Kelly spent much of Sunday night waiting in a corridor outside the boardroom while the executive board deliberated, twice inviting interim ombudsman, Buzz Hargrove in to the discussions before a final vote and decision was made.

Kelly was invited back into the board meeting along with general counsel Ian Penny where he learned his fate.

Neither NHL.com or NHLPA.com are confirming the report at this time. But you can read more, here.

8:37 a.m.

Krejci is skating
"I skated on Tuesday for the first time," said Boston Bruins center David Krejci on Friday. "And Thursday I skated for the second time.

"Next week I'll go four times."

Now, that doesn't necessarily mean we'll see him today when we head up to see the player-run practice at Ristuccia's Wilmington Memorial Arena, but it's darn good news nonetheless.

"It's only for 10 to 15-minutes, you know?" added David. "Left, right and crossovers.

"We'll add a little bit next week and the week after, but the rehab has been good so far.

"So we'll se how it goes next week."

Look for a feature on Krejci here on the mothership later today.
