Thornton to Join Coast Guard for a Day

Will tour, dive and fly at the Southeastern N.E. Coast Guard Sector

BOSTON, MA – On Wednesday, August 12 at 9:00 a.m. ET, to show support for the US Coast Guard, Boston Bruins forward Shawn Thornton will tour the Southeastern New England Coast Guard Sector at the Woods Hole Air Force Base (1 Little Harbor Road, Woods Hole, MA 02543) with members of the New England Coast Guard.

Thornton will arrive at the Woods Hole Coast Guard Base at 9:00 a.m. where he will have a meet and greet with all members of the Coast Guard and be welcomed by Commanding Officer, Captain Ray Perry. Following the introduction, Thornton will receive a tour of the base and participate in an instructional course nicknamed ”pyro training.” Thornton will also be invited to don a survival suit and take a dive off the pier with Deputy Commander, John Kondratowicz.

After the tour, Thornton will hop on a Coast Guard response boat and drive around the Vineyard Sound with Chief Josh Lemoi and Botswain’s Mate First Class Jordan Baptiste before returning to the base at 11:30 a.m. for lunch in the galley.

Once lunch is finished at 12:30 p.m. Thornton will depart for Air Station Cape Cod (5201 Lee Road, Buzzards Bay MA 02542) where he will receive a tour of the Air Station’s hangars and aircraft before going airborne in a Coast Guard helicopter for an area overflight. The helicopter will hoist up Thornton from the boat deck and return him to Otis Air Force Base (158 Reilly Street, Buzzards Bay, MA 02542) at 3:00 p.m.

Members of the media wishing to attend should arrive at Woods Hole Coast Guard Base (30 Woods Hole Road, Falmouth, MA 02540) no later than 9:00 a.m.
