Ward traded to Carolina. B's acquire Patrick Eaves, draft pick. Eaves on Waivers.

On Ward...
There was a bit of implied melancholy to Boston Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli's statements on Friday, not only for his trade of Aaron Ward to Carolina, but also for his having to put Patrice Eaves on waivers.
Via conference call, Chiarelli explained that he was with Ottawa when the Senators drafted Eaves.
"Patrick...is a tremendous young man and unfortunately he fell victim to this type of system," he said.
And that system allows Boston more "space and a little more flexibility" as far as the salary cap is concerned.
"What we did with Patrick is that we put him waivers for the purpose of buying him out," explained Chiarelli. "We have the ability to do that because we recently settled an arbitration and there is a second buy out period after [an] arbitration award or settlement."
As for Ward, Chiarelli acknowledged the difficulty of losing such a dynamic character in the B's locker room.
"With regard to Aaron, I think he's been a tremendous soldier here...bringing experience, bringing size and strength and bringing a stabilizing influence to our defense," he said. "And, frankly, I wouldn't have traded them anywhere else but Carolina, because that's where his home is.
"And I really do appreciate the time and service and personality that Aaron has brought to our organization.
"I wish him well in his future hockey career and career afterward -- he'll be taking some of your jobs."
There was no comment to that statement from the media during their question and answer period.
