Caron is Ready to Start his Career
BOSTON, MA - He may be new to the whole professional development camp world, but hockey has been in Jordan Caron’s blood for a long time. And for Caron, being at the rink has always been about working hard and having fun.

Since being selected as the Boston Bruins first round draft pick in the 2009 NHL draft (25th overall), the 18-year old prospect has continued to put those simple philosophies to good use – after all, this is what he has been training for since he was a toddler.

“I started skating when I was three and would skate with my dad,” he said during July’s Boston Bruins Development Camp. “I think I realized there was something good in hockey in my second year of pee wees.”

In turn, when it came time for last June’s draft the B’s thought there was “something good” in this young man from Sayabec, Quebec who was the leading scorer for his junior team -- the Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League -- with outstanding 112-76-150 totals.

Now, with three successful junior seasons under his belt, it’s no surprise that this Bruin cub went into his first NHL development camp knowing what he needed to do to get himself in fighting shape. As such, by the time he hit the ice in Wilmington in early July, Caron had already started the process of training for the B’s training camp in September.

“I just started training,” he said of the week between the draft and Dev Camp. “I am just trying [learn to get in better] shape this week.”

Again, the experience was not all about hard work for Caron and the other big goal for his first development camp was to take it all in.

“What I want to get out of this week is to have fun, improve on myself, work hard, and learn a lot,” he said. “[This week] I’m working on my skating and…getting to know the coaching staff and the guys better.”

But Caron did admit he had some jitters when he saw the large crowd of die-hard Black & Gold clad hockey fans lined up to watch he and the other players practice.

“I didn’t know there were going to be a lot of people like this for a practice,” he said. “But I think it’s great.

“The fans are great in Boston…and I think everybody knows Boston is a great town for sports.”

Caron may have been nervous when he walked into Ristuccia Memorial Arena, but once he was on the ice he became quite the battler. In fact, his ability to make room on the ice for teammates to score is exactly what Director of Hockey Operations and Player Development, Don Sweeney, was excited to see during the B’s third annual midsummer prospect camp.

“I believe he had a really good week,” said Sweeney of Caron. “I think that if you asked anybody on our staff, they’d say that they were very, very excited about the fact that he was available where we [drafted him, because] we probably would have had him at a higher level.

“[He’s got] size and strength and a great release that…is going to give goaltenders a lot of trouble.”
