BOSTON, MA – Thanks to the enthusiasm and generosity of Bruins fans, the “Bruins Beard-A-Thon” raised over $93,500 for Boston Bruins Foundation. In addition, the Boston Bruins “Beard-A-Thon’s” total amount ranked second in donations collected among all participating NHL teams, bested only by the Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins, whose fundraiser lasted an additional month.
The beards that brought in the most money for the Bruins Foundation fundraiser were the Director of Development for the Boston Bruins Foundation, Bob Sweeney with $21,563, the Dropkick Murphys’ Ken Casey with $17,221 and Bruins fan Jim Valillo from Fairfield, CT who raised $7,885.
Throughout the Boston Bruins 2008-09 Stanley Cup playoff run, the Boston Bruins Foundation invited fans to grow their own playoff beard through the “Bruins Beard-A-Thon.” The 2009 “Bruins Beard-A-Thon” gave Bruins fans the opportunity to show the B’s their support by “growing one for the team” and raising money for the Boston Bruins Foundation.
