Bruins Foundation Events in Full-Swing
BOSTON, MA -- Summer is here.  And while there may be no ice at the Garden, there's still plenty of activity happening in the offices of the Boston Bruins Foundation.

July marks one of the busiest months for the Foundation as they host four events to raise money for the Boston Bruins Pan-Mass Challenge bike team.

On July 15, the Bruins Foundation will hold the Jeff Hayes Cape Cod Celebration in honor of their former Pan-Mass Challenge “Pedal Partner” Jeff Hayes, who succumb to Ewing’s Sarcoma in January 2007.

The event will feature live entertainment, food, drinks, raffle prizes and giveaways from the Boston Bruins and Vineyard Vines.

“It should be a great way for the community to get together...It’s long overdue,” said Bob Sweeney, former Bruins forward and Director of Development for the Boston Bruins Foundation.

For the Bruins Foundation riders, Hayes is one of the many sources of inspiration for all their hard work both before and during the ride.

“You see the little kids in the photos and there are people cheering you on," said Sweeney. "And just when you think you’re tired it gives you that little extra boost of energy in realizing why you are doing this ride -- to wipe out cancer.”

But before the riders begin their journey, there will be two more opportunities for the public to help raise money for the Pan-Mass Challenge

On July 22, the Bruins will host their hallmark fundraising event, the Sunset Harbor Cruise.  Fans will be able to dine and dance the night away to Jim Plunkett, while schmoozing with Bruins Alumni.

With a boatload of B's vets in one place, tickets to the event are selling out quickly.

“I look forward to our biggest boat cruise since we first started,” said Sweeney.

A different type of bike ride will occur on July 26, when the second annual Rally for a Cure motorcycle ride flies through New Hampshire.  A unique event, featuring a rolling motorcycle rally is just another way the Bruins Foundation is hoping to draw in fans and raise money for the Pan-Mass Challenge.

In just its second year, the event is looking to recruit new riders and even generate support with a custom Bruins motorcycle.

“It should be a good ride, said Sweeney. "We’re going to do a Bruins motorcycle for the upcoming season that we’re going to raffle off…  It should be a unique item that will stay here in the Garden for the whole year”.

Proceeds from all events go to the Boston Bruins Foundation Pan-Mass Challenge Bike Team which supports the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in their efforts to find a cure for cancer.

With three weeks until the first event, fans still have time to help this great cause and have fun themselves.

“It’s a great opportunity to interact with some of our former players...and it’s all for a good cause," said Sweeney. "It’s a win-win for everybody”
