Chiarelli on WEEI
Boston Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli engaged in an informative talk with Dale Arnold and Michael Holley. You can listen to the interview, here.

Below are some highlights:
Chiarelli on team injuries...
"Again, Chuck [Kobasew] had the ribs, and obviously Phil [Kessel] and David [Krejci]. And for Phil [Kessel], a good chunk of the latter quarter, if not half, that he was dealing with the shoulder."

On whether the guys who need surgery will be out at beginning of season...
I guess I characterize it as questionable...[but] we’re going to get Marco Sturm back, we may have other players in so we’ll be okay, but the thing to concentrate on is that these guys rehab it properly and vigorously because if you miss a step along the way in rehab, you’re going to fall even further behind.

On having to choose between signing Krejci or Kessel...

It could be a number of things that we have to do...and you see some of the things that the Pats [Patriots] have had to do over the years and when they have been you’re like ‘wow’, that may happen with us and it may happen across the league and that’s the reality of the cap system and a shrinking cap.

On if Scott Walker should have been out for at least Game 6, if not Game 7...
That was a disappointing situation and my inclination is to look at these things and to rationalize them and say my peace behind closed doors when I speak to the league. I was really disappointed in that. I don’t want to rehash it again, but I was really disappointed in the result that someone can be sucker punched and not be sanctioned. So I’ll leave it at that.

Boston Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli (who is set to be a guest on WEEI's Dale and Holley show at 10:40 a.m. BTW) and head coach Claude Julien have been recognized by The Sporting News.

From today's

Yesterday named Julien:
Claude Julien, who guided the Boston Bruins to the top of the Eastern Conference standings, has been named NHL Coach of the Year by Sporting News in a vote by 39 coaches and executives from throughout the league.

Julien's Bruins were 53-19-10 with 116 points in his second season at the helm. He molded the Bruins into a league power by instituting a more offensive style and an effective blueprint for dealing with players

The Bruins have NHL hardware coming their way, as well.

Earlier this spring, the NHL announced that Boston Bruins goaltenders Tim Thomas and Manny Fernandez earned the NHL’s William Jennings Trophy as the goaltenders for the club finishing the regular season having surrendered the fewest goals.

Julien is a finalist for the Jack Adam's Trophy, Zdeno Chara is a finalist for the Norris and Thomas is a finalist for the Vezina.

Those awards will be given out at the 2009 NHL Awards, to be held for the first time in Las Vegas on Thursday, June 18.
