Thoughts on a long break...
"Well the one thing I’m not going to do is make this a negative situation," said Coach Julien of the B's break between series. "I know people are saying 10 days is a lot, and it is a lot, but it’s up to us to really make this a positive situation as we can -- [one] that just allows us some rest, allows us to work on part of our game.

"it’s up to us to stay sharp as individuals, as athletes and as a coaching staff.

"It’s up to us to make sure we don’t let that happen -- so we can look for excuses or we can look to make this a positive situation and that’s what we’re trying to do," he said.

On Monday, bostonbruinsTV caught up with injured B's defenseman Matt Hunwick. "I'm feeling much better," he told the cameras gathered at Wilmington's Ristuccia Memorial Arena. "I've gotten better every day since the surgery." ...more.

Thomas is a Vezina Finalist
The NHL announced today that Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas has been named one of three finalists for the Vezina Trophy, which is awarded “to the goalkeeper adjudged to be the best at his position.” Thomas joins Minnesota’s Niklas Backstrom and Columbus’ Steve Mason as this year’s Vezina finalists. This is the first time Thomas has been a Vezina finalist in his career.

Thomas - who set a career high with 36 wins this year and played in his second straight NHL All-Star Game - finished the 2008-09 regular season as the league leader in Goals Against Average (2.10) and Save Percentage (.933). He helped lead the Bruins to their highest victory (53) and points (116) totals since 1971-72, and he and teammate Manny Fernandez shared the NHL’s William Jennings Trophy as the goaltenders for the club finishing the regular season having surrendered the fewest goals (196).

Mason and Backstrom are the other two finalists. JB

Chara missing...
A quick look at the ice reveals that Zdeno Chara is the only player missing -- no doubt a maintenance day of some sort.

Everyone else, including Tim Thomas, Patrice Bergeron and Andrew Ference, are on the ice.

The club is running through line drills to start, and both goaltenders are pretty animated in the crease.

Courchaine to Providence
Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has assigned goaltender Adam Courchaine to the Providence Bruins (American Hockey League).

The 20-year-old Courchaine split the 2008-2009 regular season between the Providence Bruins and the Ottawa 67’s of the Ontario Hockey League. He played 30 games for the 67’s and registered a 13-11-2 record, a 3.28 Goals Against Average and two shutouts.

He started and played in one game for the P-Bruins this season and went 0-1-0 with a 3.00 Goals Against Average.
