Coach Julien: \"Talk is cheap.\"
Boston, MA -- Annoyed, mad, confused and frustrated…

Many emotions crisscrossed the Boston Bruins locker room following the Bruins 2-1 loss to the 14th place team in the Western Conference, the Phoenix Coyotes, and none of them were positive.

“This time of year you can’t win games when you don’t give a better effort throughout the whole game and we just can’t seem to finish our plays right now,” said a stone faced Claude Julien, postgame. “Whether we’re squeezing the sticks or what [ever] it is, we had some point blank opportunities that we didn’t even hit the net with, tonight.

“And it kind of shows you where we are at – where we used to have that confidence to make some plays and finish them – now we [do] not.”

Center Patrice Bergeron, who set up Chuck Kobasew on the Bruins lone goal, said as much.

“Well it was very frustrating,” said Bergeron, who also explained that the B’s should be looking in the mirror for the cause of their trouble.

“I mean it’s in here,” he said of the B's locker room. “It’s really about us right now and [we have to] figure out what’s going on and really bear down and work hard, win battles.”

Fan favorite Milan Lucic, who returned to the lineup after missing two games with an upper-body issue, believes that the time for talk is over.

“We talk about it, we say all the right things in the room, but right now we just have to go out there and prove it on the ice,” he said. “That’s pretty much it.

“That urgency has to be there and we have to be willing to do it.  That’s what it all comes down to, basically.”

Julien concurred.

“I think, talk is cheap right now,” said the B’s head coach. “We just have to go up there and then execute.

“I can stand here and give you all the excuses, but there shouldn’t be excuses, and there’s got to be reasons to want to turn this around.”

New forward, Mark Recchi, who arrived from the Tampa Bay Lightning at the trade deadline, had hoped to be a spark plug for the B’s, but despite playing very well in his debut, he and his new teammates endured a very difficult night.

“Yeah I mean lets hope this is now and it ends and we start figuring it out,” said the veteran NHLer. “We played 30 out of 60 tonight, and I think we realize that’s not going to be good enough, especially around this time of year.

“The guys will figure it out and they understand now, we’ve gotta take it out to that next step and put it out on the ice and put all your energy out there and do the proper things that are going to make this team successful.”

Defenseman Steve Montador, late of the Anaheim Ducks, who also arrived in Boston at the trade deadline, said he understood the displeasure of the his new home fans when he was asked about the boos directed toward the Bruins.

“Hey, they’ve come to expect some good hockey,” he said. “The problem with playing really well all the time, and for the most part of the year, is that people expect that all the time.

“So we know that and we know why they’re doing that and we certainly need to get our butts in check too.”
