We just got done speaking with Coach Julien. The only Bruin who is not making the trip is Nokelainen and he may join the club later in the week.

John Bishop is the beat writer for He covers the Black & Gold hoping to offer a positive look at the team, not only from the stands and the press box, but also from inside the locker room.
Everyone who should be on the ice is on the ice, with the only missing piece being Petteri Nokelainen (and, of course, Marco Sturm).

No news yet as to what the travel party will look like for this afternoons flight to Carolina.

10:56 a.m.
Michael Ryder was just stopped by Manny Fernandez and Manny looked to be giving Ryder the business about his head gear.

Ryder could be heard to say "I can't see" as to why he had missed on his recent shot.

It is funny to see a cage out there, though and with the scarlet and white jersey, Ryder looks as if he might belong on Boston University's first line.

I'd bet BU head coach Jack Parker might enjoy that a little bit.

Well, I've been here 12-minutes and there is already good news:
Chuck Kobasew (undisclosed injury) is back on the ice and wearing a regular practice jersey.
Michael Ryder is on the ice wearing a full cage and a red non-contact jersey.

Although there had been no news to the contrary, I have to admit I am both surprised and thrilled that both men are back on the ice.

When Ryder, the Newfoundland native, hit the ice with his red jersey and college-esque cage he got an appropriate beaver tail salute (think everyone's stick hitting the ice at a clapping pace).

Chuck seems to be his speedy self, and Ryder is playing with some hop, but we'll wait for B's head coach Claude Julien to tell us what's what.

I will also admit that I was expecting to find a somewhat more sullen crowd of Black & Gold clad skaters in the Ristuccia Memorial this morning, the mood on the ice is excellent. From the moment I started watching (and Shane Hnidy flipped a puck in my general direction, complete with missing-tooth grin) there has been a lightness about the proceedings.

It's been a decently-paced practice, but after each decent play there have been stick salutes and whoops and hollers.

It's as if Coach Julien told Our Boys that they are still allowed to have fun.

The general hilarity has been a welcome diversion to the frozen fans in attendance -- many of them children with the Presidents Day holiday off.
