Marco Was on the Mark
Boston, MA – Lost in the madness that was the third period on Saturday was the triumphant return to form of Bruins winger Marco Sturm, who scored two goals to pace Boston to an impressive 5-1 victory over the rambunctious Dallas Stars.

On Saturday morning, prior to the game, Sturm and his teammates, who had suffered a let down against the Calgary Flames during the second period of the club's loss on Thursday, received a clear call to arms from B’s head coach Claude Julien.

“There’s some guys right now that still can be much better,” said Julien. “But I guess this is the challenge that coaches have every year, trying to get everybody going.”

Of Sturm, Julien said, “When he’s determined and when he’s involved, he wins races, he wins battles.

"When he’s determined he can play a physical game...that’s the thing that right now has to improve -- his whole involvement.

“Once he gets that figured out and that on track, the goals will follow,” he added.

Newly combined with center David Krejci and rookie winger Blake Wheeler on Boston’s third line, Sturm was strong off the hop and took a feed from his new partners and scored at just 2:41 of the first period.

“Overall our line played a good game,” said the speedy, but soft-spoken, Sturm.  “We had a lot of chances at the end, so that’s good.”

Late in the third period, Sturm, who saw time on the Bruins power play and penalty kill units, capitalized on a gorgeous play on a man-advantage that began with a pass from Michael Ryder (behind the goal line to the right of the Dallas netminder) to P.J. Axelsson (in front of the net, in the slot) and ended when Sturm (just off the crease to the goalies' left) found the back of the net off a feed from his Swedish teammate.

“It was a nice pass from Axie,” said Sturm, who added, “It felt good to finally get (some) goals.”

Earlier in the day, Julien had also said, “You can only imagine how good (the team) can be if we get all our guys playing the way they can.”

The coach’s daydream became vividly true on Saturday night.

“It’s nice,” said Julien of Sturm’s performance. “He needed to react and, not just react, but find his game.

“I thought he played better tonight. He was in the right spot (on) that last goal it was a great play to him.

"He buried those (two) and I thought he was a better player tonight,” he said.

Sturm was simply happy to contribute to the victory.

“It was a great win,” he said. “They got a lot of power play opportunities and we sort of lost our focus in the second period, but we handled it really good.

“We knew that in the third period we had to play our game and we did.”

Especially considering the circumstances, Sturm was also pleased with the team’s overall effort, as well as the Bruins ability to bounce back from the road loss earlier in the week.

“We stuck together for sixty minutes it didn’t matter what happened out there,” he said. “I think the guys showed some class and we were rewarded.”
