Lucic Looks Forward to Monday Night

A familiar pose...
Boston, MA -- The scoreboard’s lowered, the banners are up, and the ice is ready. After a four game road swing to start the season, it’s finally time to bring the game back to the Garden.

The Bruins locker room was abuzz after pre-game skate this morning, and perhaps no one was more excited than Milan Lucic.

“It’s always a fun day when you get to play in your home rink,” Lucic said with a smile.  “We gotta go out there and make sure we give them something to cheer about.”

A fan favorite during his rookie tenure last year, Lucic was voted winner of the Seventh Player Award at the end of the season.

This year, he’s again looking to contribute in a big way to the team’s success.

“He’s a machine for his age,” said teammate Shawn Thornton, happy to talk up his former linemate.  “He’s kind of a man-child…a mountain of muscle.”

On the first line with Marc Savard and Michael Ryder in Saturday night’s game against Ottawa, Lucic tallied his first goal of the 2008-2009 season.

“I thought [last game] was a good game for me – I shot more, got pucks on net, just went to the net,” he explained.  “It’s always nice to get that first one, get the monkey off your back.

“Hopefully they start coming more now.”

And, finally back on home ice, Lucic is hoping those adoring fans will be the catalyst he – and the rest of the team – needs to continue their winning ways.

“The last time we were in here, it was a great game,” he said, referencing game six of the Montreal series during last season’s playoffs.  “We had a good road trip to start the season, so we built a little bit of momentum coming back.”

While the B’s had two pre-season games at home, the atmosphere at those games just doesn’t compare.

“I don’t really want to say pre-season games don’t mean anything,” Lucic said, “but the fans definitely get more into the regular season.”

And tonight, fans will get their chance to cheer again.
