Marquardt\'s a Man of Many Talents
Wilmington, MA -- Matt Marquardt thinks he’s one of the luckiest guys alive.

Originally drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets, he was traded to the Boston Bruins earlier this summer and recently attended his first B’s Development Camp.

“Getting a chance to be a part of an organization that’s an Original Six hockey team is a dream come true,” said Marquardt in the locker room of Wilmington’s Ristuccia Memorial Arena. “Right away, people started saying, ‘Oh! You went to the Bruins!

“Me, I’m still trying to soak it all in.”

Marquardt, who notched 43 goals and 26 assists last season, split the 2007-2008 campaign between two teams in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League – the Moncton Wildcats and Baie-Comeau Drakkar.

But when he is not lowering the shoulder on an opponent – and that happens quite often judging from his outstanding performance in camp -- the budding power forward also has an artistic side.

“That’s one thing people don’t know about me,” said Marquardt.  “I play guitar

“I guess you could say my family’s very musically inclined.

“I’m a great guy to have around a campfire -- just playing some tunes with some friends.

The entertainment doesn’t end by the fire, however.

“Sometimes if we’re on the bus I’ll throw a tune together or something just for laughs,” he added.

Only time will tell if he and Bruins defenseman/musician Matt Lashoff, end up having some jam sessions on the road. Before becoming teammates, both men have to prepare for training camp..

Looking forward to September, Marquardt seemed pretty optimistic.

“I’m just going to try and do everything I can, play my game, show the organization that they made a good investment in me in bringing me here,” he said. “I’m going to work and do my best to get a spot and be a part of the organization.”
