Enthusiasm Thy Name is Levi
Boston, MA -- After rolling several decent games during a Development Camp bonding experience, Levi Nelson can rest assured that if hockey doesn’t work out, he’d probably have a spot in pro bowling.

But Nelson assured BostonBruins.com that his prowess with the pins wasn't always so powerful.

“The first time I ever went ten-pin bowling was back in Canada,” he began.  “The holes in the ball for your fingers [are small], and I’ve got fat fingers, so I went to go throw the ball, and it went up, it got stuck on my fingers, and it landed in the other lane.”

Needless to say, the whole ordeal didn’t end well -- If you ever wanted to know what sliding down a bowling lane feels like, Nelson could tell you.

“It was pretty embarrassing,” he laughed in retrospect.

However, despite his improvements in the bowling realm the forward should stick to hockey, given his success the past few years.

Nelson played three seasons with the WHL Swift Current Broncos, earning 152 points in his 198 games.  In the 2005-2006 season, he was named the team’s Rookie of the Year, and he was the team’s high-scorer in the following season.

After the stellar season, Nelson was the Bruins sixth pick in the 2006 entry draft.

The 2007-2008 season proved even bigger.  Nelson was the second-highest scorer for the team during the regular season and had 15 points – 7 goals and 8 assists – in 12 post-season games.  He also played in one regular-season game with the Providence Bruins that season.

“Going up as an 18-year old in Providence and just playing a couple games gave me a taste of what it’s like,” Nelson said.  “It’s all good experience, and it just goes to show how much I need to work.”

He again joined the P-Bruins at the end of his junior season this year but did not break into Providence’s league leading lineup.  However, also for the second year in a row, Nelson wound up playing alongside another set of future B’s at Development Camp.

“It’s always a good time in the summer to see all the guys back and see what we’re up against for main camp,” said Nelson.  “It’s a fun time.”

As a camp veteran, Nelson saw the difference between this year’s camp and last year’s, the first Development Camp the Bruins had ever held.

“Last year was pretty heavy -- a lot of hard work,” he said.  “This year the work’s a bit more spread out.”

Like many of the returning campers, Nelson enjoyed the fact that there was only one workout a day and more team-building time.

“That’s all great to get to know each other and build friendships,” he explained.

Clearly, he’s got a fun-loving personality, and from watching him come up with out-of-the-ordinary ways to throw the bowling ball down the lane, you can tell Nelson likes to have a good time.

But it also says something about him as a player – and hopefully as a future Bruin – that, even on the last day of camp, he was in the rink and on the ice, eagerly, even before the lights came on.
