Krejci Notches First NHL Goal
Boston, MA -- During the Bruins 4-0 victory over the Ottawa Senators Tuesday night, David Krejci became the fifth Boston Bruin to score his first NHL goal during the current campaign.

Milan Lucic, Jeremy Reich, Vladimir Sobotka and Matt Lashoff had all turned the trick before David, but none were more anticipated than Krejci's tally.

The play-making rookie, who had fought through a demotion to Providence and a 35-game streak in the NHL without a goal, had even been told by the B's resident Nostradamus that he was going to score his first NHL marker in the game versus Ottawa.

"Right after I scored, I sat next to him on the bench and told him he was going to get his tonight," said Shawn Thornton, who scored Boston's first goal of the evening.  "I think a few shifts later he scored."

Krejci remembered it the same way and will certainly remember his first goal forever.

"After Thornton scored, he said he had a good feeling I was going to get one," said the usually reserved Krejci with a wide grin. "Then I did, it was funny."

Everyone was exceedingly happy for the amiable rookie, but nobody thought it was funny.

"It was nice to see him get his first real goal, that’s going to count on his stat sheet, rather than that shootout goal," said a smiling Bruins head coach Claude Julien. "I think he’s getting his confidence back slowly knowing that he can produce at this level and that’s important at this point in the season.

"I think he’s a pretty gifted player, a pretty skilled player, and when you have that goose egg in the goal department at this stage in the season it can be pretty disturbing."

"It’s awesome when you get to see a kid score his first NHL goal," added Thornton.  "It is one of the most exciting times of your life, its what you dream about when you’re a kid."

There is no doubt that David is a gifted player.

Krejci played six scoreless games in the NHL during the 2006-07 season (getting a concussion in the process), but the young man was a monster for Providence during the regular season (31-43-74 totals in 69 games) and during the playoff run last season (3-13-16, 13 games), and has displayed a knack for setting up other people's during his time in the NHL.

But Krejci's scoring attempts (this season 0-12-12 in 35 games) have gone achingly wide, high or into opposing-colored pads.

"I have had chances in the past 35 games," said Krejci. "Today it finally went in.

"It was kind of a sense of relief.

"Like I said, I played 35 games with zero goals.  I had chances and just missed.  Today it worked out," he said.

Krejci recounted the play.

"Reich [recovered the puck] and we went in three on two," said David. "He made a pass to [Peter Schaefer].

"Schaef took it to the net. [Lucic] and I went hard to the net, that’s when good things happen, and it did."

Coach Julien said it was just a matter of everyone doing the right things.

"I think there was a good shot on net and Lucic did a good job of getting to that puck too," said Julien. "I think it was just a matter of [Krejci] staying in there and battling it out."

Just staying in there and battling it out -- it sounds like Krejci's entire season, but that is a Bruin for you.

"I was just [focused on] my game," said the rookie.  "For sure I wanted to score goals, but I didn’t, so I was trying to not think about it.

"I would stay positive and hope to score in the next game."

All of Bruins nation will join him in that sentiment, for as long as he wears Black & Gold.
