Bobby Allen: The New Host of NESN\'s Buzz?
Watertown, MA -- In addition to playing for his beloved team, Bruins defenseman Bobby Allen has taken on an unusual role this week – television host.

Allen will be guest-hosting “The Buzz” as a replacement for the show’s usual host, Hazel Mae, who is away on assignment.

Watching Allen filming the show, you would never have known that it was his first time alone in front of a TV camera, let alone as a show host.

“I work in front of cameras all the time,” said Allen.  “You think you’d get use to it.  I have a new found respect for people who are in front of the camera all the time.

“It’s more difficult than it looks.”

Filming in front of a massive, slightly blinding green screen was another new experience to the hockey pro.

“When you see it on TV, it obviously looks a lot different,” Allen said.  “It’s cool to see behind the scenes and how they do everything.”

He also enjoyed having the honor of talking about fellow teammates.

“I like talking about the guys. I haven’t been playing with them as much because my injury so it’s fun to talk about them,” Allen said. “I’m sure there will be a few jokes in the locker room – mostly aimed at me.”

But he’s not sure how the team will react when they find out about his new “career.”

“The guys will probably give me a hard time about it I’m sure, but it’s okay,” Allen said with a laugh.  “It was fun to do, and I’ll take the jokes.”

The defenseman has not played in the past 22 games due to back spasms but says he “feels good” and is “excited” to get back on the ice.

During the filming, there were more laughs than outtakes in the NESN studio, and Allen felt he had found a backup career.

“I would definitely do it again!  It was a great time,” said Allen. “It’s something that I never thought I would be doing.  But it was a fun opportunity and something I had a good time with.”

But if the NESN anchors are worried about new competition, he promises that there’s nothing they need to worry about.

“I don’t think Kathryn Tappen, Hazel or anyone at NESN have to worry about their jobs,” Allen said as he laughed.  “They do a great job, so there won’t be any competition for me.”

You can catch Bobby Allen’s debut on “The Buzz” this Saturday, February 2, at 6:00 p.m. as he counts down the Bruins Top Ten.
