BOSTON, MA -
Boston Bruins Executive Vice President Charlie Jacobs announced today that the club will host Willie O’Ree Night on January 19, 2008 to honor the 50th anniversary of O’Ree breaking the color barrier in the National Hockey League.

On January 18, 1958 the Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada native became the first black player to participate in a regular season NHL game.  During the 1957-58 season O’Ree saw action in two games with the Bruins- the first of which against the Montreal Canadiens on January 18, 1958.

Prior to joining the Bruins in 1958, the right winger skated with Fredericton (NBSHL), Quebec (QJHL), Kitchener (OHA) and Quebec (QHL) from 1956-1957.  During the 1960-61 season, O’Ree was again called up by the Bruins and went on to play 43 games recording 4-10-14 totals.
