Lucic\'s a YoungStar
2:00 p.m.
I just got back from Wilmington where I learned some good news.

Boston Bruins left wing Milan Lucic has been named to the NHL's YoungStars game, held as part of the NHL's All-Star Game festivities.

Below is part of the official release from NHL.com:

Comprising the best of the League's stellar rookie class in 2007-08, the eight-player Eastern and Western Conference YoungStar teams will face off in a new three-on-three event as part of the Dodge/NHL SuperSkills competition on Saturday, Jan. 26 at Philips Arena in Atlanta (7 p.m., ET, VERSUS, CBC, RDS). The YoungStars will be shooting against goaltenders named to participate in the NHL All-Star Game the following day.

You can check out the rest of the roster here and the Bruins will put out an official release in due course.

Just wanted to pass on a reminder for a good cause.

The Boston Bruins will face off against hunger with their first-ever “Five For Fighting Hunger Can & Cash Drive” during their home game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on January 17th.

The Boston Bruins and the Greater Boston Food Bank will be collecting non-perishable food items to fill the vintage Boston Garden penalty box.  Fans who donate five non-perishable food items or $5 in cash will be entered in a contest to win Boston Bruins autographed merchandise.

Fans are encouraged to bring donations of canned tuna fish, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, red and brown beans, and juice boxes. All cash and food collected will be donated to The Greater Boston Food Bank, which serves more than 83,000 people every week through its network of more than 600 hunger-relief agencies in eastern Massachusetts.

So join the Bruins and help fight hunger!

Sunday, following the Open Practice for Season Ticket Holders, three of the guys spoke about the team's win over  Philadelphia. Click the links to listen in or check out a gallery from the practice.

Tomorrow, look for interviews about Marc Savard and Milan Lucic going to Atlanta!

4:26 p.m.
Several faces were missing from practice today, but there was some good news despite the low attendance.

"Axie (P.J. Axelsson) is day-to-day," said Bruins head coach Claude Julien. "Nothing serious...and when I say, day-to-day I mean he'll be (back) in around four days to a week."

How about Jeremy Reich, who blocked a shot with his foot on Saturday?

"Reich should skate tomorrow," said Coach. "We're just giving the swelling some time to go down."

What about some of the other guys who were not here today?

"(Thornton) is battling the flu. So is Schaefer. So is Timmy Thomas," said Julien. "We're trying to avoid the worst by keeping them away...those things happen.

"Nothing needs to be done right now, because those guys who have the flu should be okay to go on Thursday."

Defenseman Dennis Wideman was not on the ice, either.

"With Wideman it's just maintenance," said Coach. "He's going to play."

The best news of the day came from the Glen Murray front.

"He skated (before practice) this morning," said Julien. "He becomes day-to-day, but I am not convinced he is going to be ready for Thursday.

"But he is back skating again, so things are looking up."
