B\'s Make Trade
5:29 p.m.
Late breaking news: Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced Wednesday that the team has acquired defenseman Shane Hnidy and a sixth round draft choice in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for forward Brandon Bochenski.  Hnidy is expected to be available for the Bruins next game on Thursday, January 3 against the Washington Capitals...release to follow.

Odds and Ends
It was a fun day at Ristuccia where, in an effort to keep warm, the press corps traded their favorite Steve Carell moments from TV and film (think The Office), the Bruins worked on the PK and PP and I began my first day minus diet soda (and by extension, too much caffeine).

The coldest rink in the world was just that, but to their credit the B's kept things upbeat and fast paced -- and happy. For the first time in a bit there were lots of smiles around, and the world seemed to be back in proper order.

I, for one, am glad that 2007 is over. December, in particular, was uncomfortable to say the least, and if you were to say more, you could say that the 12th month was the pits. Thankfully, however, the B's put a nice exclamation point at the end of the year and pointed their ship in the right direction to (hopefully) steer clear of dangerous waters.

I am not sure that two periods can erase six games of frustration, but a come from behind victory and five straight goals can't hurt!

Good news from Rhode Island
From the P-Bruins: "The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, announced today that left wing Pascal Pelletier has been named the CCM/AHL Player of the Month for December after helping the P-Bruins to a 13-2-0-0 record. The forward paced the club with 13 goals and 22 points, along with a plus-12 rating. The league honor is the second for Providence this season after defenseman Sean Curry earned the Rbk/AHL Player of the Week Award on December 17.

Pelletier, 24, bookended the month with a pair of six-game points-streaks, the first at home and the second on the road. On his present scoring-streak, Pelletier has five goals and four assists for nine points. He had a season-high nine-game points-streak from October 24 to November 18, scoring six goals and adding eight assists during that stretch."

Nice job Pascal!

I just posted the release and a story about Mr. Hnidy. Look for those on the front page. JB
