Boston @ Carolina
The Bruins are in Carolina this morning, preparing for a 7 p.m. tilt with the Hurricanes. Keep your browser "tuned" to for all the news leading up to the game. JB

Asked about his missing and wounded players after practice on Thursday -- Allen, Alberts, Murray and Ward, Bruins head coach Claude Julien said that they would be staying home.

"No, they are not making the trip," he said. "(None) of them are ready."

So that means that the B's will be icing a full squad of rookies, with Milan Lucic, Vladimir Sobotka, Petteri Nokelainen, Matt Hunwick and Matt Lashoff all making the trek south with Boston.

"What you saw out there (Thursday afternoon) is what is making the trip," said Julien. "Every team has its issues and with ours right now, it's battling through these injuries...and finding ways to win hockey games.

"That's part of the process that most teams go through during the season and a lot of times it's how you handle those situations that can make or break you down the road."

Julien indicated that through his high-paced practice yesterday, he hoped to shake the club out of its slumber.

"That's basically what it was," he said of the session. "The guys were skating well and they had the energy.

"But those three days (off) will have done a lot of guys a lot of good, (especially) with the amount of ice time some of those guys have had.

"We got the cobwebs out (today) and we have another morning skate tomorrow," said Julien.

Just got an update from the Carolina contingent...

Timmy is in the barrel for Boston, tonight. There are no personnel changes to the lineup, however there is no word on tonight's scratch (as the B's are carrying an extra forward).

Obviously, Alberts, Allen, Murray and Ward are back in Boston.

Tim Thomas is still amongst the statistical leaders for the 2007-08 season and has a .900 save percentage against Carolina in his career.

The Boston Globe's Fluto Shinzawa reports on the Carolina side...

"Despite taking a shot off the mask from teammate Mike Commodore during the morning skate, Cam Ward will start in goal tonight...Andrew Ladd, who injured his left cheek on Wednesday when he was popped by all-world agitator Sean Avery, will play with a protective cage tonight. "He's not in any danger of doing any more injury to his face," said coach Steve Laviolette. "So we'll cage him up and let him go."

The Carolina contingent reports that the lines will be the same as yesterday, but The Globe is reporting that the D-pairs may have switched up. So here is my best guess based on my observations yesterday (with a little help from Fluto):

Reich or Thornton-Sobotka-Nokelainen
Chara-Wideman (sg) Thomas
Stuart-Ference (bg) Auld
Lashoff-Hunwick Go Bruins!

6:31 p.m.
I was re-listening to my stuff from yesterday and found a nice nugget from Matt Hunwick. I asked him if it was constantly in his mind to impress when he is called up from the AHL.

"I think you do (want to impress), but at the same time you don't want to try too hard and do stuff that is going to hinder the way you play," said Matt. "I think that every opportunity to come up (is) an opportunity to prove yourself.

"And when guys get back from injury, they are going to get back into the lineup and you are going to go down.

"But at some point, maybe next year or the year after, you are hoping that the hard work you put in now, what you do now (will make it so that you are the one) who is up here for good," he said.

Heading over to the Running Recap. Go Bruins! JB
