Late word out of the Bruins offices is that Patrice Bergeron has been discharged from the hospital. With that, New England (and Quebec) can take (another) collective deep breath,
Unfortunately, no further update on his condition is available at this time.
Those of us who are privileged to come into contact with the young man on a daily basis speak of his hockey talent in hushed tones.
To me, the words "hockey player" are spelled "P-a-t-r-i-c-e B-e-r-g-e-r-o-n."
And I am not alone.
Patrice, himself, is an extreme celebration of the game of hockey. I can't imagine anyone who enjoys the game more, who takes losses harder or who appreciates his teammates and his coaches beyond Bergeron.
Everyone who knows him shouts his merits as a human being with the same gusto usually reserved for moments of supreme elation.
In fact, recently we all learned that Bergy is scheduled to receive the 2007 "Champion Award" award from Children's Hospital Boston -- an award given each year to a Boston athlete who exemplifies outstanding commitment to the community.
Patrice loves his family. He loves Boston, and he is a good friend to everyone. I can't begin to explain to you how important the young man is to his teammates.
I sat thinking about what I might possibly write today, I could only think of two things.
Thank you. Merci…to whomever or whatever was looking over our friend yesterday.
Prompt rétablissement Patrice...Patrice, get better soon.
